which brand would you choose if all of the laptops had the same price and same features.

Toshiba
IBM Lenovo
Dell
Winbook
Compaq
HP
Gateway
Other

my four top choices are Toshiba, IBM Lenovo, Dell, Winbook, I stay away from Compaq and HP and Gateway because they are overprice but for this question i'm assuming same price.

I would also say the top would be IBM/Toshiba/Dell. I love my Dell and I've had 3 Dells and they have all been great. Of course I don't by the low end stuff though.

I couldn't use an IBM because I don't like their keyboard layout...also no windows key on it. But that's just me being picky.

IBM/Lenovo...I just picked up a T series before the name change but it is the best laptop I have ever tested or owned.

I've got a Toshiba that I like pretty well. Had an HP for a long time before that, but I couldn't tell you about current products, my HP was a P2-166.

I had a Latitude laptop a couple years ago and ordered a replacement part that never cam. They said it would take 2 weeks and then called me when I was at work and left a message that they were cancelling my order 3 weeks later. I had to call and reorder. This process repeated 3 more times until I finally gave up on getting the part.

A month ago I tried them again and bought an Axim PDA. ActiveSync wouldn't work with my PC and after spending lengthy amounts of wasted time with their support I got nowhere. I finally got the problem fixed on my own by cruising some froums like this one but becasue of the headaches Dell gave me I returned the thing anyway.

I've had 3 Toshiba notebooks that have served me faithfully. All the IBMs I have used are by far, superior to anything I've had my hands on. That was before the takeover.

I get sick of hearing this. I've never had a problem with Dell support. They've always sent parts out very quickly and they were easy to deal with.

I think some people (not talking about you flavio...just in general) like to jump on the "hate a certain huge company" bandwagon. Regardless if they have any first hand experience with the company.

Yeah, i never really had any problems with Dell.
My Notebook experience has been Gateway and Dell. My Gateway laptop had issues after a year, my Dell i never kept it more than a year, I resold it. But during the times I have called Dell everything has worked out ok.

IBM laptops seems to be at the top of the list for people, but the only thing i dislike, is the style they use, they are ugly.

I need to get a laptop for next semester but i'll make a new thread for that.
