Im in the market for a new laptop, and the choice is mindboggling.

Now I learn that Yonah is coming out in Jan '06.

Is it worth waiting for it or would it be ok to buy a turion or P-M system now?

 
An easy question to ask yourself is. Do you need dual-core at any given time? If yes, Are you willing to pay premium for them. If you answered NO, on either one. Then ask yourself this. Do you HAVE to have it now, or can you wait till Yonah is released and several notebooks are already on market with Yonah. Because once Yonah comes out, P-M and Turion's pricing will probably be lower, and you can snag a notebook cheaper if you can wait in time.
 
I've been following PC's for over a decade. There is always something new a few months away. My advice is build a config on Dell and watch it through all the coupon codes that come out. When you get a good price, buy it. Or if you see a deal at B&M than buy it. I have a P-M laptop that I play Total War and Civ4 on and that is the only time the CPU gets a workout.

And from personal experience, buying some new tech the week it comes out is usually a waste of money.

From what I can see, you're best off buying last year's top-of-the-line business model laptop. I'm now typing on my HP NC4010. I upgrade roughly every year, if not sooner, so it makes sense for me to get a reasonably priced laptop.
The HP NC4010 is 800$ (I paid 750$) at Geeks.com.
