Laptop blank screen problems

So i have an ACER 5100 laptop that doesn't show anything on the screen. When hooked up to an external monitor the screen CRT monitor goes from amber to green status repeatedly. So from powering on it doesnt show anything.. not even a bios screen and nothing on the external CRT.

What does this sound like? A problem with the motherboard?
 
Definitely sounds like a busted motherboard (if the video is onboard) or a busted video card (if the video is discrete)
