laptop battey question.

About a year ago I inherited a HP laptop with a lithium battery. Sadly, fully charged, I get only about two hours battery use without AC support.\

But that is not the issue, the issue is that when the laptop is turned off, the lap top battery leaks charge even faster than than if it was fast discharge Nickle hydride battery. And in 10 days or so of no use, 80% of the battery charge is gone.

In contrast I have a cell phone I also seldom use, but it will often go six months or so with no need to recharge its similar lithium ion battery.

Does a lap top use current in the off State?

Then why is my similar cell phone battery that is even more well used running rings around my barely used lappy battery?

The reason why I said what I said is that's because all my lappys behave similarly. (if I leave my lappy's sitting unplugged for 10 days at least one of them - with the smaller battery - will effectively be discharged enough that it will not start.) Things will be noticeably better with a BRAND NEW BATTERY.

Regarding cell phone versus lappy is probably apples & orange. One would have to do all kinds of investigative research to determine what is going on such as battery chemistry formulation differences, ambient curret draw tests, etc. My guess is that lappy batteries are formulated for high current charge/discharge cycles & you are experiencing the effective side characteristics.

One simple test would be to charge the lappy, remove the battery for 10 days then reinstall it and check the charge level. If it holds its charge well, then the assumption is that lappy has a significant ambient (maintenance) current requirement.
