laptop battery

I just got the 500 bucks laptop from bestbuy. I have a question regarding the use of the battery.I guess the battery is lithium ion.

Is this ok to use the ac adapter even when the battery charge is 100%? One of my friends says it hurts the battery if you charge the battery after it is full. If that is true, then I have to unplug the adapter as soon as battery is fully charged, right?

I would also appreciate any tips on the use of the battery.

By the way, is there any deal/place where I can buy a nice laptop carrying bag in a reasonable price?

Thanks

My understanding is unlike the Nickel-Cadmium (sp?) batteries, the Lithium-Ion batteries don't develop a "memory" or rather incorrect readings for when the battery is fully charged and/or nearly empty. I've been running a couple laptops with Lithum Ions for two years in one case and almost four years in another. Both laptops are plugged in 95% of the time, but when I do choose to use one of them unplugged I still get nearly the same battery life as when the first was new (about 2 hours and 15 minutes). On the second one, I had two batteries and those both went bad after about two years. I got a third and it's almost two years old as well. It's life is still about 2 1/2 hours, which is not bad for laptops of that era. When the batteries on the second laptop went bad, they simply wouldn't take a charge at all, but I think they'd reached the end of their normal life. I don't think my habits of having them plugged in a lot had anything to do with it.
