I've had my Netlux 8575 laptop for about 2 years now, and recently the battery seems to have gone kaput. As soon as I unplug the AC power cord, the laptop will stay on for maybe 15-30 seconds before instantanteously shutting off. Does this sound like the battery to you? Is it normal for a laptop battery to just stop working like that? I thought they were supposed to last "forever."

And if it is the battery, do you know how insanely high-priced Li-Ion batteries are? Like $135. I'm almost tempted to just sell my laptop and buy a new one...

Yah, that sounds like a battery problem. Laptop batteries are horribly expensive, as you just said; especially those for off-brand laptops like Netlux. I would try running a search on Ebay, as you can often find what you're looking for for 40$ or so, although laptops are getting cheaper as of late. (you can get a Celeron-M 1.3ghz laptop for about 550$ nowadays).
You might be able to find someone else with a similar battery (many laptops are just rebranded Acers or Sagers) and see if that fixes the problem. It might just be a loose wire somewhere in the dephs of the motherboard.
Hope this helps.
