Laptop Ate It, time for a new one....but where?

My 600M bit it hard a few months ago. It runs fine until you touch it/move it/look at it/breathe on it and then it powers down. It really sounds like there's a short someplace, and I've had it parted out on the kitched table and was unable to find a problem. So, I'm going to suck it up and buy a new one. My ?'s

A.) From whom? Do I want another Dell or do I go through a company like discountlaptops, Ibuypower or PCTorque?

B.) . I've seen people mention the Sager brand, Acer has also come up, are these any good? My experience in notebooks is limited to retail brands and Dell.

My price range is roughly $1400 and I need something with integrated wireless and a dedicated GPU.

Sorry - Something small-ish 🙂 My 600m has a ~14in screen, but I was thinking about maybe something smaller OR something widescreen depending on the hardware configs. Like if I can get something with a ~12in screen with a 6800 in it, than that's the route I would most likely take, if only for portability reasons.

I don't think there are any 12" lappys with a 6800 and they wouldn't cost $1400 if they existed...Your better off with an Xxxx from ATI for that price.

I think you would be hardpressed for even a 14 inch laptop that had an 8 pipe GF card.

Unfortunately, small laptops with good video cards are very rare. The Sony Vaio S360, which I think has been discontinued, has a Radeon 9700 and a 13.3" widescreen, and the Asus W3V (as well as a Compal whitebook - don't remember the model) has a Radeon X600 and a 14" widescreen. Both are quite pricey (but the Compal may fit your budget). It doesn't really get any better than that for a small notebook.

Toshiba has a 14" SXGA+ notebook that has a GF Go 6600, your best bet there. But it will run you $2K+ with SXGA+ screen.
