Lapping kits?

Anyone know of a good reliable (and hopefully not too difficult to use) lapping kit I could order on the internet? I'm definitely not getting the best out of my e6600 because it's idling at 46 @ 3ghz on stock with a Big Typhoon on it. So something has to be screwy.

they dont have high enough grits for heatsink lapping.

some have 600grit which is as high as you need for IHS lapping - but not heatsink.

the home depot's around me didnt even have 600 though. 400 was the finest grit they had.

Thanks for those who have responded. Searching on this forum was previously a mess for me, and currently didn't show too much beyond a link or two. If I'm going to lap the IHS on my e6600 should I use the ceramique instead of the as5? Are these kits specifically for IHS or for heatsinks... I sure don't want to grind down my IHS and make it unusable. I'm sorry if this is an old question (judging by some of the replies) but I really don't want to get this wrong. The money I've put down so far is a substantial amount to me and I'd hate to screw it up.

Either, both seem to perform well imo.

Both.

Auto shops are your best bet. They have extra fine grits that you cannot get at hardware stores.

Also, buffing with a dremal and polishing compound can put the mirror finish on it after you have lapped it.
