Corrosion? My copper waterblock has a ton of oxidization on the top and sides, but where I lapped it and "tinted" it with Arctic Silver II its still shiny and new looking. So I don't think corrosion would be an issue as long as you "tint" the whole bottom with whatever thermal compound you choose to use.

Tint = Placing a small of thermal compound on the heatsink base and rub it in really well and then wipe it off (credit goes to Nevin from Arctic Silver as this isn't my idea). It fills in the micro grooves in the metal so your application from the core doesn't have to try to and will probably end up trapping air bubbles. A tinted core will be much less likely to have the micro valleys filled with air instead of compound.
