How do I lap a heatsink? Got any links? I would like to lap a FOP32-1 for use with a AMD k6-2+450. Any help on this would be great.

Do a searchin the forum for the keyword lapping. Basically you will need sandpaper with grit rating ranging from 300, 600, 900, 1200, 1500 Starting with the 300 you want to have the paper on a super flat surface, and with cirular motion, sand the bottom of your heatsink. When the marking form metal being removed are even over the entire surface, go to the next finer grit (300 followed by 600 followed by 900 etc) continue this procedure til you have a super smooth, super even nearly mirror-like shine

I really can't see what good lapping will do with the new format of the Duron & T Bird. There is so little that the HS comes in contact with ...that I can't see where a super flat bottom would help. Now when you speak of the K6 with that big cap ...now that may be another story.

I think the performance incrase would really depend. If you have good case cooling, probalby more increase since more heat it getting to the fins, and w/ the case cooling, should remove from ur system. However, if your system is like closed up, it wouldn't really help since ur just recycling the hot air in and out. I find that lapping helps move more heat to the heatsink, but unless u can get it off the heatsink it's not helping although there would still be some benefit since the heat isn't "on" the CPU but on the heatsink.
