Lapped VGA Silencer Rev.3 vs ATI Silencer 3

Hi,

I currently have a lapped Vga Silencer Rev.3 (2000 grit ;P) sitting on my r360 9800pro 256MB. I was wondering how the Ati Silencer 3 compares to a lapped Vga Silencer Rev.3 on high. Also, how well does the back-plate work? Will it work better than copper ramsinks w thermal tape? If the Ati Silencer 3 is better than the Vga Silencer, then ill probably run out and buy one since im worried about the fan dying on me (been seeing alot of 'dead vga silencer' posts recently). It will also save me the trouble of having to find some thermal tape 😛

thx

Thx for the reply, but ive already read that review. It only compares the Ati 3 with the stock cooler......so I still dont know how well the Ati 3 performs when compared with a Vga Silencer

Well if you compare the Silencer 1 and the Rev 3 they perform just about the same. I say just go for the cheaper one.

Killmenow, did you ever come up with a good answer? I'm wondering basically the same thing for my new 9700pro. The VGA Silencer Rev3 is around $15 shipping, and the ATI Silencer 1 is $25 shipped. Wondering what exactly the $10 would get you, if anything.

I haven't tried the ATI Silencer 3, but I did have the ATI Silencer 1 on my 9800Pro for a while. Then I "upgraded" to the older VGA Silencer rev. 3. Glad I did, overclocks can go slightly higher now. Assuming the ATI Sil 3 is built in the same fashion as the ATI Sil 1, I would go with the older VGA Sil.
