I disagree. Treating people with respect while they are standing on American soil is a big part of what makes America better than the rest of the world.

Would you also like to throw Queen Elizabeth in jail any time she visits, just because? A tourist from Germany? A Spanish student on his year abroad?
Why should a working class man not get the same dignity?

If he isnt supposed to be here, then boot him out. But dont abuse the poor bastard in the process. Thats not civilized. Its something the Chinese would do. And they suck.

If the Queen of England enters the US ILLEGALLY then yes she should be thrown in jail.

Illegal foreign invaders should have no rights.

When did I say that the ICE shouldn't have to enforce laws?

I am saying that if the LAPD can freely ignore enforcing immigration laws, then so should private businesses. Leave it up to the ICE right?

Explain to me how this isn't following enforcing the law:

The Police Department will now only honor requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement to keep someone in custody if there has been a judicial determination of probable cause or a warrant from a judicial officer, Garcetti said.

I don't think this is a bad thing. I never understood why our government would ask to detain these people for long periods without any justification or trial or warrant, etc.

Just to be on the up and up, are these people here illegally? The article doesn't specify that. I'm going out on a limb and guessing they're illegals.

Question for the OP - does the fact that they're here illegally justify them being detained?

From my understanding these folks get caught possibly doing something illegal, or get caught under suspicion of being an illegal. But usually they are given a hearing and or trial for anything illegal done in this country and then deported if found guilty. But they only hold them for a certain period of time and then give them the hearing/trial. I think a lot of those who have done something illegal like say murder, rape, or stealing should in fact be held and then get their trial. But I don't agree with holding and detaining for months on end without trial or hearing of any sort.

I also think that this current administration is looking to buy time, and states are getting overwhelmed with holding so many people. They aren't set up to hold that many people for long periods.

In addition a lot of these folks who are coming here in droves apparently are children, many are very young, and they are traveling many countries to get here. Some from Ecuador and other countries not just Mexico. My question is, why is there this huge flux all of the sudden? Who is coordinating all these children's travels here? I think there is much more going on than just promise of being in a free country.

The only time frame mentioned in your article is "48 hours".

Why do you keep pulling months long detainment out of your ass?

Well it sure as hell isn't enforcing immigration laws now is it.

Or do you think the ICE is in the habit of putting the holds out for shits and giggles?

Still waiting. A legal basis? Law citation? Something? Anything?

And regarding the latter... most definitely. They often do. But that's neither here nor there.

WTF are you talking about?

They are holding them so they can be deported.

The state is letting them go free so they cannot be deported.
No, fool. The state is refusing to hold them for the federal government because enforcing immigration law is solely a federal responsibility.

Since you seem to love holding illegals so well, if the feds told you to build a jail in your house - at your own expense - and from time to time to hold (house, feed, and provide medical care to) illegals (again, entirely at your own expense) that the federal government brought to your front door, would you comply with the government's request? Or would you tell them to fvck off and take care of their own prisoners?

How is letting people tagged as illegal immigrants go free enforcing immigration law?🙄

Am I a law enforcement agent?😕

And in fact you are making my point. If actual law enforcement agents shouldn't be expected to enforce immigration laws why should private businesses?

As you yourself said. Enforcing immigration law is SOLELY a federal responsibility. Pretty sure private businesses are not part of the federal government.

Yeah, I think it's going beyond the point of holding them for simply being illegal. It's a clusterfuck now. LAPD can only detain the most vile offenders because they simply don't have the resources to continue doing the feds job. I think that's the point of the LAPD doing this. The sad part is, this has been a long time coming.

The reason, of course, that LA & others are being asked to hold immigration cases for the feds is that the legal system is underfunded, understaffed & backed up halfway to eternity.

Cut! Cut! CUT! Smaller Gub'mint! Lower taxes to create Jerbs!

Even when Righties get what they want, they find a way to whine about it.

dude.... really.... please tell us you know the difference between and illegal and the queen of england visiting on a official trip or a student going to school on a student visa?

So this clusterfuck can be directly attributed to lack of revenue?

must. be. a. hack.

in relation to this story, what is it that the "righties" are wanting and whining about because they got what they wanted????

Must be a mow-ron to not realize that deportation is a judicial process & that there is an enormous & growing backlog of cases.

If we cut funding & delay appointment of federal judges, it's not like the system can run full speed ahead.
