I am building a new desktop machine. However, I am used to my XPS laptop, and would like to be able to put a screen and keyboard in my lap to work with the desktop. Since I will be doing 3D graphics and video editing, VNC is not an acceptable solution.
I would like to set something up with an LCD monitor and keyboard in some sort of hinged case (I thought about using a briefcase), but I am concerned about the case being top-heavy when open, since there is no hardware other than a light keyboard to ballast the case. To be clear, I don't want to build a suitcase PC... I just want a convenient way to combine an LCD and keyboard such that I can use them on my lap and fold them up for portability.
I have looked at some rack-based keyboard/lcd combos, but those are too heavy and do not have the LCD specs I am looking for.
I believe I have settled on the ASUS VH226H lcd, as it seems to have very good specs for the price, and would not be too large (hopefully) in my lap, and is reasonably light compared to other LCDs I looked at. I would've preferred a 17 or 19" glossy widescreen that does 1920x1080, but those seem to be in short supply. I am not married to any particular keyboard, although I would like to fit a trackpad into the design.
Does anyone know of any place that sells anything like what I am asking for? Either a case that I could adapt, or a fully put together unit?
Alternatively, any ideas what I could use to construct this contraption for myself?
