I've just started building a new system. Here's my setup:
AMD64 3000+
512MB x2 Crucial Ballistix RAM
LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb
XFX 6600GT
Seagate 7200.7 160GB HD
NEC 3520 DVD Burner
500W Fortron Source Blue Storm PSU
Now the problem is that I think my mobo was defective. When I first entered the BIOS after assembling, it locked up. Then, after a CMOS reset I was able to config the BIOS and load Windows. Then, my PC began locking up in Windows. After a few Windows lock ups, I alternated the sticks of RAM to see if one or both were bad, but it did the same. After reinstalling the RAM, it would still lock up in Windows, but got progressively worse. Until the system would POST. Now it freezes at the video card info screen prior to POST. I've heard that the nForce chipset was particular about optical drives, but I've even went as far as booting up without the DVD burner installed, no change. I've requested an RMA number from NewEgg, but before I spend the money sending the mobo back, is there anything I could be overlooking??? I'm not a build rookie, but everyone forgets something...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW I'm sure the CPU and RAM are good. I've not gotten any POST beeps or error codes that would lead me to believe that. Plus I was able to get CPU-Z to run early on, and they both showed up correctly... Come on smart people!
