When I shut down my system, the PS-2 mouse port is still on and my MS Optical Mouse continues to glow red. So, what setting did I miss (or mess up).

Using a good ANTEC case and PS, HyperX RAM, A64-3000 CPU. ATI AIW 9800 (the good one, not the stripped down slower model). Everything works fine otherwise.

That's not a bug, that's a feature!

Your board has a "Keyboard / Mouse Power-On" feature. In the BIOS, you can set your computer to power on by a mouse click, by a power button on your keyboard, if any, and/or by spacebar or any key.

So, your keyboard and mouse receive voltage from the "+5VSB" rail instead of the regular +5 rail. +5VSB never turns off.

To defeat this feature, change the PS2_PWR jumper on your motherboard, if such exists, from +5VSB to +5. Set your BIOS (in the Power Management) to disable keyboard/mouse power-on (the option is usually labeled "Button only")

Alternately, since you already have your PS/2 ports on the +5VSB rail, enable KBPO in the BIOS, and enjoy never having to push the power button again.
