Damn how I miss the good ole times before all the whiners and kiddies took this place over :|

i think if it were left to the "kiddies", we wouldn't have as much censorship. it's the old people!

Hmm Maybe we can replace the banned words with other words

School Marm=C*** Su****
Mikelh=Bun* Lover
bunker=D*** H***
Bleep=Bleep (hey why ruin a perfectly good derogatory term)
damocles= S*** Eater

Of course eventually those words will be censored too.. of course when they are there'll be nobody around to whine and snivel about "Professionalism" or members having such "Bad Command" of the English Language.

The above was meant to be taken in jest..sort off🙂

<< i think if it were left to the "kiddies", we wouldn't have as much censorship. it's the old people! >>

True, the kiddies just created the need for more censorship. Before ATOT began to resemble Romper Room nobody even brought up the subject of Censorship.

gopunk, when OT was created, noone had a thought about this kind of stuff, people behaved to some extent, but it worked just fine, the boards and their population mostluy took care of themselves.

Now its like an AoL chatroom.

<< I would hope it was fully meant in jest >>

Yes it was, only the names were changed to protect the innocent. Besides, Anybody who supports Wingnut Pez is ok in my book🙂

well, while the forums may have changed a lot since you first visited here, i would dispute your assertion that it's like an AOL chatroom. have you been in an AOL chatroom before? OT is leaps and bounds better, at least in the chat rooms that i visited.

filters should be in place to guard against people flaming others, cursing repeatedly in caps, etc. but the problem is that these filters restrict one's ability to use these so-called "taboo" words to legitimately express themselves in a calm and rational manner. there are many instances that i can think of, where i wanted to use these "taboo" words for legitimate purposes, such as transcribing a conversation, or even a discussion about the words in question (see above). not to mention usage as as they were intended to be, nouns, adjectives, and verbs. i see no reason why we should make the decision between "feces" and "s**t". both can be used legitimately, and it is just as annoying to have somebody type "FECES" repeatedly as it is to have them type "S**T" repeatedly.

A language filter is the embodiment of the inability of the owner(s) and maintainer(s) of a forum to deal with the people who refuse to obey certain rules.
