Why would any coach of Cowher's standing want to go work for Al Davis after all of this. He's turned from a mavericky but well respected owner into a complete joke.

Because Cowher is from a very, very small circle of coaching candidates who could get away with telling Al
Davis to keep his nose out of the football end of things, and Al Davis would have enough respect for him
to do just that.

Think about like this: if you're Al Davis, who has been in pro football for decades, and you hire Lane Kiffin, a 31-year
old with no NFL experience, how could you NOT believe you should be heavily involved in the day-to-day football
operations of your team? With Cowher that would not be an issue, and if Al Davis is really a hungry for a championship, he will swallow his pride and do what is right.

This presumes that Al Davis acts rationally though. Something that hasn't happened in the last decade or so.

No coach in their right mind with ANY sort of winning track record is going to coach the Raiders. Period.

They KNOW Al Davis is running the ENTIRE show...and nobody wants to be the front-end of his puppet regime... why do you think they had to hire a 31 yr old first time coach to begin with?

Oakland is going to be limited to guys with little experience wanting to get their name out there as a coach, or guys who can't get hired anywhere else. I heard Paul Hackett was a strong consideration for the job... well we know how well he ran an offense, eh NY?

Cowher is too hands on to work with a hands on owner. That's why he worked so well in Pittsburgh, Dan Rooney didn't make football decisions. Cowher and Colbert shared the personnel, and NOBODY told Cowher how to coach his team.

If Davis WANTED a guy who would stand up to him, he wouldn't have hired Lane Kiffin. He wants a lackey yes-man.

The Raiders were actually competitive this year. Oh well. I'm not a Raiders fan, so I really don't care much.

Why not Bum Phillips?

He's ancient, and has the right perspective:

"There's two kinds of coaches, them that's fired and them that's gonna be fired."

Yeah....that is what I am saying. They started the season at 1-3....the team is better than that. I do not follow that team close enough to know about the drama though.

I think it's pretty impressive they've managed to go 1 - 3 and be competitive in all their games even with Al Davis hanging this crap over Kiffin's head.

There was speculation from ESPN that ownership could change within the next 4-5 years and that the new owner would move the team to another city to reinvent the image because apparently lunatic raving stabbing fans in Oakland don't work lol. But honestly I think the Raider Nation will follow its team to whatever city. What city do you think they would move to tho?
