Landlord threw out my stuff

So I was renting an apartment until the middle of last year when he asked us to move out so he can renovate the place. He gave us an ETA of 3 months until completion. I had intentions on returning when he was done and he told me personally he had no problem with that. I cleared out my stuff in the unit but asked if I can leave some stuff in the small storage closet in the back since I will be returning. He said that won't be a problem and if he did need access to it he'll call me (he has my cell #).

Now 6 months later the place still isn't done but in the mean time I've already closed on a house and started moving my stuff in. So I go over to the apartment to get my stuff out on Monday and find mine and all the other unit's stuff littered outside the carport area. No phone call letting me know to come get my stuff if I still wanted them.

I knew it wasn't secure to store important stuff there so it was basically stuff that I still kind of wanted but didn't sweat it if I lost it. Anything of use was taken and all boxes were scavenged through. I just gathered what was left of anything I still wanted and left. Had I complained and reported it I'm assuming I won't have much of a case since all I had was a verbal agreement.

Well that sucks, but if you didn't lose anything valuable I doubt it would worth your efforts to report anything. Congrats on the house btw.

At least he's not your landlord anymore. Unless you closed on a huge house you're going to want more storage than you've actually got so you can look at this as a blessing in disguise.

Wait, how do you know the landlord had anything to do with it? Could someone else have broken in to the storage area?

That fucking sucks. I would be pissed off and probably scare the landlord so bad that they would wish they had brown pants on.
