Landlord ordered to pay Muslim tenants $12k for showing the apartment

http://www.torontosun.com/2017/04/2...rampton-landlord-must-pay-muslim-couple-12000

http://dailycaller.com/2017/04/28/tribunal-forces-landlord-to-pay-12000-to-muslim-couple/

What he did wrong? He made noise after 10PM, he forgot to remove his shoes when entering *his* property, he didn't give more than 24 hours notice before showing the apartment. And he made noise while removing snow.

You trying to tell us that you give a damn about a landlord and tenant dispute in Toronto, Canada? Go on, pull the other one now.

He never stood a chance.

Hi all! My name is Jo-Anne Pickel (but you can call me Jo). I am a Vice-chair with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario which means I hear and decide human rights cases for a living. It’s a great job because it allows me to pursue my commitment to human rights and social justice while also challenging me on a daily basis.

Professional SJW here.

I'm not really interested in any single anecdote like this, but I'd like to point out that you can't rent out your property and then act like you didn't barter away any of your property rights in doing so.
I've worked in the business for more than 20 years now, and it's something I've seen too often from landlords.

Dick landlord gets his comeuppance. Right wingers claim victimhood cuz Mooslims & shit.

They wouldn't know how to act if their panties weren't in a knot all the time.

Awwww, you poor, persecuted conservative brilliant gentleman. Life is just so unfair since it became unacceptable to use terms like porch monkey, beloved patriot, slope, etc., to describe your fav people, am I right? You know that I am.

You wish. It must be nice living in this fantasy of good/evil you have.

Landlord and tenant seem to both be dicks. Landlord could have easily accommodated without inconvenience the requests of the tenant. Tenant could easily have tolerated those failures to accommodate and move on. Based on available evidence, there does seem to be religious/racial discrimination, and that's wrong.

But I'm glad I don't live in Canada. People ought to have the right to be ass holes.

Thread hijack ahead. The right is getting a little weird. Despite the law and order talk, their actual respect for the law seems to extend only as far as it serves them. Something else I've noticed of late is that when the law isn't serving them, talking points magically appear to make it seem like the law is being intentionally twisted against them. For example, a false talking point that I saw quite a bit of recently was that the SCOTUS would 'restore' the POTUS' constitutional powers over immigration. Except that the POTUS has no Constitutional powers over immigration.
The false point here is the emphasis on how it's the landlord's property. Which, of course, yes it is. But the landlord also rented out his property in exchange for the tenants' money. And with that rent, the tenants 'purchased' legitimate rights. I'm not familiar with Toronto law, but in many jurisdictions, a tenant doesn't have to allow a landlord access to the property after giving notice to vacate. Access for showings is not legally required, but definitely a good idea as a courtesy if you want your security deposit back. And hey, tenant rights like this aren't communism if they paid the rent. Just my $0.02.

The real problem is professional bureaucrat and people like her who...imported the muslim couple in the first place, and then sympathized more with them probably due to ideology.

But really, it isn't just that Muslims are more prone to terrorism than any other group. it is also that they are often unpleasant as this couple was. And both were unemployed, so why were they admitted? What special skills or training did they bring?

Like this guy, for instance.

He ran a fried chicken place. What was the point bringing him over?

I'm pretty sure that Canadians can be assholes, outside the legal framework of Landlord/ Tenant relationships.

So, the story is just a clumsy lead-in to the usual Muslim bashing & fear mongering.
