Land Rover Vs Motorbikes in NYC

I've done it on many occasions. Like I said, these bikers are always doing something in the City. Sometimes you just have to treat people like people instead of seeing it as an "Us vs. Them" issue. Talking would've been extremely cheap compared to someone ending up in the hospital and everyone lawyering up. I'm sure Mr. Lien probably wished he'd done this instead...

Might just be the most ignorant post I have read on any forum...

You are the ignorant one if you can't talk your way out of a situation like this. I have and it's not hard. These guys want to perform tricks for the internet, not traffic. So if there is one car they will let that one car go and proceed with their stupidity.

I don't see the point of not being smart about this.

You assume that they would have played nice. I don't think they would have. Given what actually happened, it would seem that my guess is closer than yours.

We still have people that are trying to make excuse for the punkass bikers/criminals and blaming the victim(s)?

Even with all the videos/reports/social media postings? See the video from last year ride -when they gang up and beat up people inside one of the vehicle because they dared to cross them?

A mind is a terrible thing to waste indeed.

have you been in Mr. Lien's situation? No? I have and I completely disagree with you. STFU if you don't have the experience to back up your dumb assumptions.

Have you been dragged out of your car and beaten, with your face slashed? After your tires were slashed? no? then you haven't been in Mr Lien's situation. thanks.

I can't verify these facebook comments below but someone took a snapshot of some texts made from a biker of the group and he says that they started hitting the vehicle and slashing his tires first. Only then did the driver gas it over one of the bikers. Would you really roll down your window and ask them to stop in that situation?:sneaky:

I see several responses of Dari that I can't see because he's the only person I've blocked in this forum for his batsh*t craziness.

Let me guess, is the delusional Japanophile not only siding with the bikers but spewing some more crazy nonsense?

This incident is just poor decision-making by everyone. People here complain about America becoming a police state where you have heavily armed police officers that you cannot even insult anymore without getting shot or facing a judge. Similarly, you have people from different worlds finding it difficult to use what we all have in common, the English language. Talking would've easily broken the hostility and these bikers would've let the family go. This happened to me a couple of years ago on Atlantic Avenue when returning to Manhattan from visiting a friend. In a blacked-out SUV the bikers will see you as a threat or outsider. Roll down the window and talk to one of them and they will lower their guard and tell the others to let you go.

He literally said that he'd roll down his window and ask them to politely stop bashing his car instead of rolling someone over. :awe:

He's saying that the RR driver should have just rolled down his window and politely explained that he has his wife and child in the car in order to diffuse the situation instead of driving recklessly and escalating the situation. He believes the bikers would then have left him alone and driven off to continue their antics.

Your sample size of 1 clearly makes you an authority on the subject.

Right, but he's also in a 5K pound vehicle. A virtual tank. I drive a BMW X5 with runflats. Unless they break the glass, no one is getting inside. That thing's a tank. Puncture the tires? It's good for another 50 miles. These bikers come out every now and then (usually for parades or other ethnic events). It's best to just let them do their thing if you're in a tank of a car. Otherwise, people will get hurt.

From the video, I did not see anyone try to break his glass until after he ran over some of them and their bikes. Those were motorcycles, he could've gotten out of there slowly. Him speeding off is what lead to this guy being in the hospital. He over-reacted.

If he rolled down his window and told one of them that his family was in the car I am sure they would've let him go. Did he have to do that? Of course not but sometimes it's just better to diffuse a situation than escalate it. These bikers may appear dangerous but all it takes is some communication to lower the tension instead of treating it like a siege...

This circles back to being in fear of your life. You cannot be sure of anything when in a situation like this. The fact you're saying "you're sure" just means you don't grasp the situation completely.

Nah, I'm not stupid enough to try to fight hundreds of bikers. It's something you just can't win. So, why fight? Just diffuse the situation and move on with your life.

I think they did that after he hit one of them. But I've never seen any of the bikers I've encountered attack other motorists. Never.

Well, it has worked for me in the past and I'm sure it'll work in the future. Treat people like people and you won't have to see them as alien.

You're right that you cannot be sure of anything but one thing I am sure of is that if these guys saw a human face behind that truck they would've shown some empathy. It has worked for me.

For the record, I also work on Wall Street and I know how people there see those from the ghettos. So it doesn't surprise me that Lien would behave this way.

Suppose you were never in that previous scenario. What would you have done if you had a child in the car?

Can you be a 100% certain that the bikers would behave as they did?

Would you risk your child?

Pardon me kind sirs, but perhaps you did not notice I was with my wife and in the presence of a child. Would you please stop accosting my horseless carriage post haste?

I've been in wars, man, so a bunch of bikers don't frighten me. Not one bit. Been in Afghanistan, Iraq, and parts of Africa so dealing with locals was a necessity. If you treat people like aliens, in their environment, you will come out the loser. But if you make eye contact, approach them on the level, you can melt the ice and have a cordial exchange. This may have been a mob, but as with any mob, there is a leader and he is either in the front or near it. Find him and you're golden. Or he'll find you and you can start the exchange.
