lancer evo... engine?

i don't know that much about cars, but some of you here seem to... what are your thoughts on the lancer evo? my parents said that mitsubishi's traditionally had crappy engines.

the 4g63 is one of THE best engines EVER. it can easily be boosted to 500-600hp, and puts out ~280hp and ~280ft.lbs of torque in the STOCK evo.

Yes they're cool cars. So were the Eclipses. Popular to modify, but that does not mean they are reliable cars. I have two friends that have had Eclipses, and both have had problems. One drives something else now, and the other doesn't have much of a choice right now because his is broken.

Lancers are a lot different than Eclipses.... for one thing, you can basically check out the specs sheet and see that the power and torque along w/ the set up is very different from the Eclipse.

But of course we are just talking stock - I'm sure that tuffguy is referring to racing fix ups.. like professional - rallies, track, you name it and the Lancer is going to be a nice, nice car to ride - a lot more superior than the Eclipse in my point of view

dude, WTF are you smoking? the LANCER and the EVO are two completely different cars. the lancer is a mid-size sedan aimed at the corolla/civic/jetta market, while the EVO is a high performance AWD beast aimed at the performance market that was left empty handed when the 3000gt, supra tt, and 300z were discontinued.

okay i'm confused. i thought there were two cars, a lancer and a lancer evo. is this incorrect?

and also, i was looking for reliability, performance is of negliable importance when you live in seattle so what's the word on reliability?

They are both Lancers, the basic body shell is the same, or near enough.
The evo has all the extra go fast bits and 4wd.
