They are all on the same team, so any contact was unintentional. This was the only team time trial stage of the race, and they would have kept the overall lead if he hadn't fell. No one seems to know what happened.

I haven't heard how bad he's hurt. He didn't look good getting off the bike.

i think you are talking about once he got up from the crash and started pedalling again, right? if so, that happens all the time. if you watch any video of a crash, somebody always gives the riders a push to get their momentum back. they turn such big gears that it takes a lot of energy to get up to speed.
