My network consists of 2 computers. I can transfer files between the 2 comps and share internet fine. However, when i try and create a lan game (doesn't matter what game) the second computer cannot see the game that is created. Did i overlook something? One of the computers is using win2kpro and the other is using win98. Thnx.

Maetryx here,

Some games use the IPX protocol (Duke Nukem 3D, for example) so make sure you install that protocol if it is an older game. In fact, to use a shotgun solution, just install all 3 major windows protocols on each machine, and let the machines decide which one to use: NetBUEI, IPX/SPX, and TCP/IP.

yeah, definitely sounds like a protocol issue. go with what maetryx suggested. can you give us the games you're trying?

also, make sure both computers are on the same subnet and workgroup

Thanks for the replies. I checked the protocols and all 3 of them (NetBUEI, IPX/SPX, and TCP/IP) are installed on both computers. The games i have tried are redalert 2 and counterstrike. For RA2, the host machine can see what the client machine is typing, but the client machine cannot see what the host is typing..wierd. Both computers are on the same workgroup and subnet i believe.

Did you enable the guest account under users for the W2KPro box?

i've seen that happen in some games

if u can't see the server in your game's server browser, try manually entering the ip (even though its not listen in the game).

does it connect?

<< Yeah the the guest account is listed under users >>

Yes, it might be listed but it's disabled by default. You have to go into the properties for the account and uncheck "account disabled".
