Lan Party Server Help Needed

Some friends and I are getting ready to have our first "larger" scale lan party (about 32 people) . I was wandering if it possible(or feasible) to use one server for Q3 AND UT at the same time. The server is my Win 2K Pro , FCPGA 566@852 , 256 meg PC 133 machine . Thanks

I wouldn't recommend it for maximum performance, but it may be good enough... if that is all you can get for servers, then it will be good enough to have a good time 🙂

I do have an extra laptop we will not be using to play on - (cough, cough) Compaq Prettysario Cyrix 200 Media GX 😉

The cyrix may do better than you think.

The integer unit is reasonably fast, it's the floating point unit that is wimpy

A lot of the FPU burden of 3D games is that of the renderer, which is not relevant for a dedicated server. I'm not sure just how much FPU use is done by the dedicated server, but I'm pretty sure it's way less.

I remember someone I know running an 8 person Q2 server on a P60 or somthing similar - worked fine.

So why not load up Q3, start a DEDICATED server, run some bots, and join on a networked client machine.

It would actually do better with real people since the bot AI wouldnt have to run.

Just use the one machine. Make it easy on yourself. That CPU can handle both fine. I run two UT servers on one box just fine. A celeron 400 no less. Don't kid yourself trying to run a server off of a laptop. Go with one easy to admin machine.
