LAN is set up, but I can't get ICS working!!!

OK, I followed everyone's directions, set up LAN between two Win2k machines (I upgraded it from Win95), I can ping him, he can ping me, I see his computer in my network, he sees me, I enabled ICS on the NIC that I have connected to the cable modem, but ICS is NOT working!!! What's worse is that when I plug the cable modem directly into his computer, it STILL doesn't work and all he gets is Windows-assigned IP address upon reboot. When I plug it back into my computer, it works fine. What's going on? Or is my only solution a router? :|

so... can you tell us what exactly you've done?
you said that you did what everyone told you to do.
what have you done?

MS ICS is not that great anyways. I am using it with 2 computers connected to a hub and it is quite slow on the other(client) computer. I agree with John. I used Sygate before and that worked great. Wingate if it is still around is a great product as well. I will be loading Sygate back on real soon! Good Luck! 😀

You need to set the client machines's "DEFAULT GATEWAY" to 192.168.0.1 inside the TCPIP properties.

Basically these are the settings
Host- NIC connecting to the LAN (TCPIP Properties)
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet 255.255.255.0
then everything empty

Clients
IP: 192.168.0.2 (all the way to 255 if more than 1 comp, dont use DHCP)
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS: 192.168.0.1

After than go to enable the ICS within the Connection's Properties page.
restart both machines

should work

YOU ARE MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

Yes, I DID IT!!! The problem was that DNS was not set in the client's computer. NOWHERE else on the Internet I saw this mentioned, but AT comes through 😀 Thanks SOOOO much, I've spent so much time on this thing, it's not even funny, but at least now I know what to do for the future 😀

Ya thats cause your supposed to set the client PCs to DHCP, ICS acts as a DHCP server and assigns the client PC the right DNS, gateway, and IP etc...
