yesterday i brought my computer over to a friend's and using my 2 NICs and a crossover cable we networked together and shared his cable internet. we wanted to play some games together but couldn't get anything to work. my machine ran fine, but his struggles with games. he has a p3 1.7ghz with 256mb of ram and an ati rage 128mb video card. at the lowest settings, he couldn't run battlefield 1942. his video card wasn't supported by call of duty, and those are basically the only games we both had. we just ended up playing games on my computer. what ideas do you guys have that me and him could do when we network? any game suggestions that will run on both my (in sig) system and his?

also i wasn't sure where to post this, move if needed.

The ATI Rage 128 is an OOOLLLDDD chip (before the Radeon series). That's the problem. Is he running an overclocked PIII or a P4?
 
if his cpu is a 1.7ghz P4 then it should be fine. get another stick of RAM atleast 256MB, preferably 512 if he can afford it. and i think for his video card you really mean Rage 128 and not Rage 128MB cause i dont think they came out with 128MB Rage cards...64MB at the highest. so he'll definitly need a new video card too. not sure what to recommend cause i'm not too familiar with Nvidia's lineup of cards.
 
yeah my mistake again, it's a rge 128 with either 32mb or 16mb of ram. i know he needs a video card and some more ram, now i just have to convince his aunt (who he lives with) to spend like $150 on that stuff.

also, i was looking at halflife on amazon and it says it's not supported by winxp, which we both have. what's up with that?
 
counterstrike, its awesome . trust me halflife runs fine on winxp.

The good thing about HL, despite it being 5 years old, is that theres so many mods out there to try out. PLus the games only like 15 bucks now.
