And that setup is better than anything you have.

I admit it must take some hardcore skills to set up that many monitors, but I personally couldn't stand the huger borders between monitors. When I get rich enough I'll buy one of those insane 1 piece wrap around screens :)

Now that would be cool.

I still use a CRT because of scalability. LCDs are nice for most other things, but for gaming I still prefer a nice Trinitron 20-24". (Hard to find now)

It probably costs less to get an actual pilots license.

What if you fail the physical?

Then prepare for it, you should be able to get a class c medical within a year of preparation.

You mean Class 3? The aviation physicals aren't too bad, even the Class 1. All they really check for is good vision/hearing/blood pressure and they ask you about preexisting medical conditions, things that you had in the past, and stuff like that. Oh and they grab your frank-n-beans and make ya cough. I'm pretty out of shape and I have never had an issue getting a Class 1 (the same one airline pilots must have).

that picture is probably at least 8 years old...I remember seeing it in PCGamer back when i was first in high school. So for back then, it was awesome...and i'd be willing to bet its better than your setup.

Why does everyone on the internet always have to trash other people or their ideas? Good god jealousy is a horrible thing.

I'm going to have to disagree. Well, partially. Using CRTs makes that setup afforable and there is nothing wrong with them, but the time when CRTs are definitively better for games is long past. Ghosting issues are gone and if you have a half decent rig, you can run at the native res of anything 20" or less full speed.

Now, I still have a soft spot for CRTs from all the years I used them, and I'm jusing one as I type this message, but they are not "far" better for gaming, not for the last four years really, and definitely not for the last two.

Judging by the style of the computer cases, that picture is probably pretty old.

Don't most video games contain warning labels for epileptics?

I've never seen one scale well.

And even a "half decent" computer can't play every game at 1600x1200 with no slow downs whatsoever. Especially flight simulators with all the eye candy scenery on high.

Maybe when I build a new high end system next year I might agree. But then, new games are always hogs and I'll end up with a game I cannot play at 1600x1200 all over again.

I like being able to scale. Maybe I'm an idiot... I dunno. When LCDs can scale I'll jump.

Good grief. That room must be 120 degrees at all times, or he has one hell of an AC.

My 17" LCD from 2k3 looks crappy at anything but native res via DVI, but my 2k5 20" LCD looks good at most resolutions for gaming, plus I can just letterbox the frame, which is what I usually do for resolutions between 1280x1024 and native.

I'm running an athlon 64 3200+ w/ a 6800GT and 2GB ram and It runs all of my games seemlessly, but I haven't bought a major new fps since BF2 came out.

But yeah, 1680x1050 can be driven by an old rig, no problem, in my experience.

Edit: and, of course, we may differ on what is a satisfactory framerate.

In any case, most people seem to agree that LCDs are the way to go today, but if you're not happy with them, then you're in luck because really, really nice CRTs are really cheap these days. :D
