I'm sure you can find information about Sempron somewhere.....how about Anandtech (click on CPUs, doh!). But the point of this thread is the devious practices of "Lamerz trying to make money [on ebay by reselling fry's specials]". You can bet that these people don't even need to understand what are sempron's in order to engage in this activity.

Please explain to me how what that seller is doing that is "devious". Is he not shipping the product? Seems he does looking at his feedback.

So he buys Fry's specials and resells them on ebay for a little profit. Take out the cost of time (I'm sure you think your time is worth something, otherwise you'd work for free), the cost of the listing, the final fee of the auction, and his profit is mostly in the shipping.

So he's devious, eh? He's holding a gun to the winner's head forcing him to buy? He's lying about the combo? Or is it that you didn't think of doing this and are amazed/jealous/upset someone else is doing it and actually profitting from it?

Heck, I've bought specials form OM, OD, Staples and resold on ebay for profit.......nothing wrong about it at all. Providing a service and a product. You don't want to buy it, don't bid. Simple.

But no......he's a lamer because he has the foresight to take advantage of an opportunity. Grow up. Not everyone lives near a Fry's and can access these specials. Until Fry's opened in Atlanta, the nearest one to me was a few DAYS of driving away. Atlanta's Fry's is still almost hours away....about 240 miles one way. At 30mpg, and at 480 miles round trip, not counting time and wear and tear on the vehicle, the cost just in gas, at $1.80/gal, comes to almost $30.

So, I get to spend a whole day driving to Fry's and back to get a $120 combo for $150, about his price before shipping. Of course, I'd save his $20 shipping fee, but I lose a whole day which to me is worth much more than $20.

You know, some people enjoy bidding on auctions, be them live or online. I see people paying more than an item's worth and value at live auctions every week. But they have fun and get what they wanted and don't regret it a bit.

The same can be said for most ebay users. They enjoy the auction format and enjoy bidding/winning.

Fry's just had this going for $120. Now look at the lamer trying to sell it for more online.

I think you're the one that's lame. The closest Fry's to me is like a day's driving, so unless you're willing to drive to Fry's for millions of people and ship this stuff to them, you should keep quiet. Oh btw, millions of people try to profit from eBay, why is this guy different? I think you're the "n00b"

More power to him.

Many people (even members here) snatch up hot deals and resell them on Ebay for a profit.

It's basically the same thing ANY seller does. It's called capitalism and it's a GOOD thing.

Actually, outpost does not always have the same specials/prices as Fry's B&M.

One thing you have to keep in mind here... Society is not made up of computer savy-l33ts, its made up of idiots and morons who are willing to pay money. Thats the beauty of capitalism. Either join the band wagon or get left out.

BTW, this one is a slight variation - the starting price is 89.99 but buy-it-now is 90.99 ! I wonder if there's any advantage to the seller to do it this way compared to straight buy-it-now listing ? Any ebay gurus can shed light on this ?

And the good news is that shipping is only $18 for this combo. Yippie !!!!
For reference, this was sold by Fry's as a special for $59 a couple of weeks ago.

funny thing is...i never said i disagreed with what the guy did. i called him a lamer in the sense that i just saw the sale at fry's and so it deserved a lame comment.

/me wonders what would happen to ebay if half the people were informed as to "smart shopping" and reading newspaper ads

I'm sorry, I still fail to see that as lame. I think the tiger eyes shirt going for $100 is lame. Someone buying a product and marketing it up isn't lame. It might be lame to you, but its definitely a hot deal to others.

I wonder what would happen if the enterprising traders bought all fry's specials all the time, and everyone else would have to buy from them for 50% higher (which would still be an OK deal in some case compared to regular price) ? I guess consumers will be cheated out of getting these very hot deals, and all the profit will go to the lamerz. I wonder what fry's would have to say about that, many of these serial traders violate fry's policy of buying only "1 per customer". If you gonna be a trader - buy wholesale, but if you're marking up retail goods, you're a lamer.

Plus (if you missed my post above), they are abusing ebay as well, by faking out winning bids, using meaningless auction format which is really just regular buy-it-now (don't know exactly why), and sometimes listing items which they don't really have (there are no guarantees on shipping dates on ebahy, but a seller is supposed to have the item on hand when the auction starts).

Probably this lamer bought the "how to get rich on ebay" infomercial and believed all the people saying they make 5 figures a month......

did that little pink fairy also tell you that 95% of Americans don't know about Outpost.com? Even if they did, Outpost.com does not always have the same goodies as Fry's. So more lame power to you.

no, but the little pink fairy told me that a lot of these ebay "pwners" are repeat visitors to Fry's, buying a product 2+ times, when the ad says "limit one per customer". So why should an honest customer to Fry's be subject to "out of stock", when the ebay "pwner" came and bought 10, just to make profit?

if someone buy it at Fry's and realizes they don't need it and sell it, then all the more power to them. but if they go and hit up 3 different Fry's in one day (easily accomplished in my area) and visit each one about 3 times, they now have 9 of this Fry's special. That's 8 or 9 people (depending if the "pwner" actually needs one for himself) that don't have it that now are either forced to buy it at a much higher price, or go on ebay and worry about shipping damage

I nominate hellfreeze for consumer union's "man of the year".

I agree it's wrong to buy more than one per customer, as fry's intended. That reminds me of my (not so savvy) friend which actually bought this same combo twice (but not for the wrong reasons). He had this old Athlon machine, and managed to fry the mobo while trying to reset the CMOS battery, so I advised him to get this P4 2.4A+mobo combo for $109 instead of replacing his mobo. So he bought it (for $109) and then he calls me and says he can't find a PSU connector for the 4-pin 12V ATX plug on the new mobo. So I told him he probably needs a new PSU as well, so he said screw it, this is becoming too complicated, and just returned the combo to fry's. While at the store, he talked to one of the sales people, and they told him he could buy a small adapter that would convert a molex plux to the ATX plug. So he re-bought the combo and the adapter, and got everything working fine. And btw, his PSU actually had the ATX plug, he just didn't notice it the first time.

wow, aren't you a young dumbo to talk to. using words like "lamer", "n00b", "pwner", "pwned" makes you powerful doesn't it? too bad you are as powerful as your bandwidth allows :D anyways, it's called capitalism, if you don't like it, there are a few countries that will let you in.
