Text this to an iPhone and it makes the splash screen show up:

I think it was developed by ISIS.

If you do this and can't get into your Messages app, open Photos and text a picture to the contact(s) that sent you the bugged Unicode text.

Will it work if I copy and paste from the browser? Link to where you found out about this?

I want to know who sits around and figures this crap out. Now my son has the text and he keeps sending it to my phone.

Apparently this:
"If you're in the conversation with the person it does not work. Only if you're out of it."

I have message previews disabled.

I guess it reboots the phone but it seems like it comes back quick.

That means it didn't reboot the whole phone. It only crashed Springboard (the home screen / lock screen interface, like explorer.exe in Windows).

My daughter had this happen to her (iPhone 5C with iOS 8.3). I had her forward the message to my iPhone 4 (with iOS 7.xx) and it did nothing (I thought she was lying trying to get a new phone). I forwarded it to a co-worker's iPhone 6 and it rebooted immediate (fast reboot) and he could no longer get text messages until I sent him another (or as said above, he could have sent a photo and it would have unlocked it). I was shocked to see the Apple symbol appear on his phone when I sent the message. He about crapped when it happened, lol! Apple is working on a fix. Only effects iOS 8.3 AFAIK.

It works. And now the highschool idiot crew is using mass-texting to send it out. My wife got one this morning - of course she has an android phone so it did nothing.

Me and my girlfriend have been trying to get this to work all morning. Doesn't seem to work on our phones.

I'm going to try this out on my kids tonight. Working in Internet security, this is interesting.

As long as they have iOS 8.3, it will work. Might freak them out...especially if you keep sending them one after another shutting them down about the time it comes back up (in a few seconds). If I still had the message, I would forward it to you, lol...but I deleted it.

Edit: I actually still have it! :p

Apple could start filtering this message in iMessage on the server side to partially fix it without a software update for the phones.

Then again, it did nothing to me, my brother, and my nephew. Does it have to be a TEXT message instead of an iMessage?

It was sent to me as an imessage in group chat and shut me off twice last night. It stopped doing it after a while though.

It's not a bug it's a feature! It says Allahu Akbar, and is a code word to set off a bomb connected to a phone. When the phone is forcibly rebooted it makes the relay momentarily turn off and back on but since it is wired as normally closed this action activates the detonator.
