LAME encoded VBR MP3s: incorrect reported time?

I've enconded several files using LAME enconder VBR setting with EAC, which undoubtely has the best sound. Unfortunatelly, these files report the wrong time when loaded (like 23:04 for a song that has 4:30 minutes). I've checked the "append Xing header to VBR file" option, but didn't have any effect.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem... I've heard that it's just an unfortunate side-effect of VBR encoding. I tried to find a solution for a while and wasn't able to find one, so I just gave up.

If anyone knows about a fix, please share!

What version of LAME are you using? Is 'Use ID3v2' enabled? If so, disable it and use ID3v1, ID3v2 gave me similar problems. If this doesn't help, I dunno what to advise, but try reading up at this site.

l2c: Xing encoded VBRs don't have this problem. :( Weird.

PilotronX: I'm using ID3v1 and ID3v1.1.

Try getting a newer version of winamp... the older ones (just a few updates ago, i think) have a hard time with VBR. They play them fine, but the time is all wrong.

Also, Media Player has tons of problems with VBR mp3s I have heard.

I think a new version of winamp should fix it up though.
