Cal Ripken? Neither hero or zero, in between. My dad worked at the same job for 35 years without ever missing a day. and it was a high energy, stressful, physical job too. many many Americans do it, so why make a big deal if Ripken does it.

He was a pretty good short stop when he was younger, but for about the last 7 years or so he has been mediocre. However, 3000 hits and 400 HR's will put him in the hall and he does deserve it.

As for his consecutive game record, I say big deal, I think Brett Favre's 160 game record is much more impressive.

It's a big deal for Ripken considering that not many pro-baseball players do it.
