Wow, Shaq is a cocky bastard isn't he.

About Yao:
``He made the shots, but he got the whistle, too,'' O'Neal said. ``He's a big guy and has a soft touch. I don't think he'll ever be able to play me one-on-one, ever, ever, ever. We let this one slip away. They played with a lot of effort. We just made mistakes.''

I like the 2nd grade grammar. Ever, ever, ever. LOL.
Translation: "I'm insecure about everyone asking me why that Chinese center beat me out for the All Star Game and scored more points than me tonight leading his team to victory, so I'm going play it off. So what if he's taller, shoots jumpers and free throws better, passes better, and has more class than me. I still weigh 60 lbs more than him b/c I eat Burger King (u know u liked the commercials!) all the time and use with the only two shots he can't block: the bull charge dunk, or hook shot. Until he puts some weight on, I'll keep dunking b/c it's all I can do, and I'm the heaviest guy in the NBA so why not? And if the refs don't give me the calls, I'll just cuss them out again, who gives a fck about a fine?"

your not jealous or anything, thats for sure

Houston would be a much better team if Stevie Franchise would set up the offense like Van Gundy wants to instead of dribbling the 24 clock down to 2-3 seconds and then throw up a fade away 3 pointer!!
he freaking pisses me off especially that San Antonio game a couple of days ago!!

Yes... because Shaq'll be retired.. In all honesty, I live in Houston, love the rocketes and like Yao much more than Shaq (in fact I hate Shaq for his cockiness) but I admit that Yao is not at Shaq's level. Sure it may be because of size but who cares, he is has the biggest impact of any player in the league.

I think Yao will be great, and in the long run, better than Shaq, but he will become a center much like the old Rockets great Hakeem... a soft touch, great mechanics, great team player, and very reputable player... not some bully who uses his mouth and weight to intimidate (sp?).

I just had to resurrect this thread and say I completely agree ragie. 🙂

Rematch was earlier tonight--I didn't catch it on TV, but both centers scored a lot of points!! Yao scored 33 points, but Rockets lost.

I'm not even a basketball fan (for a couple of years) and I think he's pretty much dead on. What am I jealous of?

Face it, Shaq's a 380 lb. fatass with a 6 year old's attitude. He's dominant in large part, due to the fact that he's bigger than most offensive linemen. Throughout his career he's gotten just about every call he could and yet, he still complains when someone else gets one once in a while. Takes pussy swings at the back of guys heads (and sucks too badly to even connect) etc.. Which one of those things is incorrect? Or am I just jealous of something?

Yes, Shaq gets away with lots of calls! Just look at how players defend him by bear hugging him! Clearly that's a play on the ball and isn't a flagrant!

You know what stands out in my mind? One of the games in the Lakers/Sixers finals. They were showing Shaq backing Mutumbo into the basket in a slow motion. Every time Shaq would drive his fat ass into him, it would lift Mutumbo clear off his feet. I remember Walton had a clever comment about that. He said: "You know how you guard him? You take the NBA rule books, tape it to the front of your jersey, and when Shaq drives it through your chest, maybe that will be a foul."

Shaq gets away with quite a bit more than he takes. However, he wouldn't take half as much if he'd get off his fat lazy ass and learn how to shoot free throws. If he doesn't like the way he's being defended he should do something about it. Obviously, it doesn't seem to bother him that much.

Your loving defense of the big tub of goo is touching, however misplaced. Please just be quiet.

Oh, by the way, when did wrapping up on a guy to send him to the line become a flagrant? Eh, maybe they've started calling them differently in the years since I've stopped watching.

i love the lakers, but i'm really starting to hate shaq. he must be the most arrogant prick in the nba.

edit: oh yeah, go lakers!

Have you read the rule book or even been told some of the rules? If you foul someone and it's not a play on the ball (which a bear huge to the chest obviously is), it's a flagrant. I believe the default flagrant is 1 and not flagrant 2, can't remember exactly.

That said, backing someone down is not against the rules if the defender takes part in initiating contact. You quoting Bill Walton is hilarious and makes baby Jesus cry.

go lakers!! need this win 'cause the kings lost tonight to dallas (127-117) and we can tie for first in the west !!
