Lakers v. Houston, TERRIBLE OFFICIATING

To take NOTHING away from Francis having an awesome game, and to take nothing away from some fine play by Yao, honestly let me know what you think of the officiating. And I am pleased by the play of both teams.

Well, bad officiating happens all the times such as the time Shaq had the offensive interference but the refs dont call that. He dunk while the ball was still in the cylinder. Minus that 2 points then the Lakers would not be in overtime.

NBA officiating is the worst of any major league i've watched. that said, the rockets got the short end of the stick, like any team playing the lakers almost always gets.

Good point. Some officiating is slightly bad, some terrible. All in all, good basketball game. G'NIGHT ALL!!!!!!!!!

Do you realize how many times Shaq pushes off in the paint? Think towards the end of the game when Walton said "ballet dancer" - he got so open by pushing off with his left arm.

You honestly have to be kidding me. If Shaq was officiated the same as the rest of the league (both ways, not just when's he's fouled but when he throws his fat arse and elbows around too) then he'd be at the line 25+ times a night. Not that it'd make a huge difference with his FT% but still.....and yeah, NBA officiating is the worst.

Baseball has a good set of rotating crews, the strikezone does vary some but that's the game.

Football, put aside the terrible officiating this playoff season. Not too bad in recent memory. But at least the NFL owns up to its officiating mistakes and looks to remedy it.

Hockey, well it really doesn't need officials. Just a Zamboni with a body scooper would do.

Basketball, see above posts. And bottom of trash bin after eggs and used toilet paper rotted for a week.

Now I am going to bed. Gotta be up @ 5....sigh.

WTF are you talking about. The Rockets got the short end of the stick in that game. The Lakers had two bad calls late. The game might have been over in regulation if not for that bad call giving the Lakers the ball when it was clearly out on them. The bad call on Shaq didnt hurt them, the Rockets failed to convert on it, they got the foul shots and the T, but didnt do anything with the ball after that. If Jackson kept his mouth shut it wouldnt have mattered about the bad call.

Shaq doesnt get called as much as he should, but then again its always been like that.

I agree and the Lakers got the worst of it.

What flagrant foul? Shaq was playing the ball...the TV announcers agreed that it was a bad call...that was the game!

Yao's winning dunk should not have been counted...he was travelling. Ha, ha!

Shaq plays the biggest garbage game in professional sports. He deserves to get screwed on every call possible.

For you lay people: By "game," I mean the way he plays.

Most dominant, yes. But i won't call him the most respected player in NBA.

ehh, name a more respected center in the league. as for the most respected player in the league, shaq is right up there next to kobe bryant, dirk nowitzki, kevin garnett, tim duncan, and jason kidd.

i'm not talking about respected as in dikembe mutombo humanitarian respect, but more like respect as in requiring double and triple teams. you have to respect certain players and that respect is shown by the double and triple teams you send their way.

Dude! Shaq plays with brute strength and no one man can repel his elbows, shoves, pushes! No skill whatsoever! Tim Duncan, KG, Dirt, Kobe, and Jason Kidd all plays with true skill and finese. That is how basketball suppose to play. Shaq's styles can qualify him in the NFL but even the NFL's rules won't allow that. Sigh!

ehh, KG plays pretty dirty himself, he throws quite a few elbows when he's the low post. as for shaq, why would he push, shove, and throw elbows if he wasn't being held and fouled every time he's in the low post? there are quite a few power forwards that play with brute strength and are you also going to call their play garbage? then again, what am i to expect of a kings fan?

i'm not afraid to admit the kings are a good team and are serious contenders with the addition of keon clark and the resigning of mike bibby, but the fans are completely beyond reasoning with.

"The unfortunate thing is it had to be decided by them,'' O'Neal said of the officials. "A whole bunch of people who paid a lot of money had to see a game that was decided by someone who doesn't make a lot of money. That's unfortunate.''
Always thought Shaq was a classy guy.

well kobe should definetely have been shotting two free throws at the end of regulation, no doubt about it. francis was getting bailed out left and right when driving the lane and then kobe gets no love from the refs, wtf? the refs also missed a francis double dribbled before yao's dunk with about 1 min to go in overtime, and the flagrant call was absurd to say the least. so yeah there were definetley some bad calls (on both teams even) but the lakers did get the worst of it, especially late, but oh well. im a laker fan and the way i look at it the lakers didnt even show up until OT, but the flagrant foul/technical combo was just too much to overcome with so little time on the clock. why was shaq playing so hard in OT but playing so lazy during regulation? WTF?

For a Laker fan to complain of poor officiating is just a most amazing twist of irony...

I agree thats a bad call. Officials have been calling flagrant fouls way too often so far in the season. What does making a lot of money have to do with making the right call? That certainly sounds like a dumb statement by Shaq.
