After starting 3-9 last year (albeit without Shaq), the Lakers are now 9-3.

Considering their terrible defense so far this season, I can't believe they're not more like 6-6. I'll just chalk it up to Payton and Malone, I suppose, and maybe the fact that Shaq is playing with 2000/2001 intensity.

Anyway, Lakers game against Chicago starts at 7:30pm PST in case anyone's going to be watching. It's on Fox Sports Net.

Well, considering they're starting four future hall of famers I don't see how they deserve a cookie for not coming out of the gate 3-9.

They don't. It's just interesting that they were still able to get 50 after a 3-9 start last season.

Most teams would be over 500 had they kept their current roster and picked up Malone and Payton in the off season

I know, that's not what I was arguing.

As vulnerable as there defense has shown to be, particularly in transition, the should feel good about 9-3.

I'll be watching tonights game...pepto bismal to the side of me.

They don't quite "gel" yet, but they're winning with sheer talent at this point. I would guess one of two things is going to happen. Either the team chemistry works out and they crush everyone in their path on the way to the title, or the geezers on the team start wearing out as the season goes along and they lose in the first round of the playoffs......

Replace first with the second round, and I'll agree.

Exactly what I think.

And don't worry about the haters Evan, they're just jealous :p. I'm glad to see the Lakers back to their winning ways, though, and here's hoping to another championship! The San Antonio Slackers don't seem to be too together as of right now :D.

I'm not quite sold on the Lakers bench yet. Horace Grant and Bryon Russell?? When is Rick Rox coming back so the Lakers can have George and Fisher both coming off the bench?

Russell is a good role player. I completely agree about Grant tho. Not sure why we resigned him. And yes, we neeeed FOX!! (no not Rupert Murdock:p)

Fox is supposed to return in January. And he's supposed to be the one coming off the bench.

I only question Russell because he is shooting 32.4% and 18.8% from 3. He needs to hit the open shots.

I'm not sure what to think of Russell, so far he's been absolute garbage coming off the bench for the Lakers this season.

The Lakers bench is totally lacking any spark, offensively or defensively, save for some good offense from Fisher (though he's been in a slump the last few games, which has really hurt the bench). Lakers bench desperately needs the offense of Fox and Slava, both have great shooting touches from 17 or 18 feet and in, and Fox is an especially good 3-point shooter. However, defense will always be a problem with the Lakers bench, unless Fox starts at the 3 and George comes off the bench. Then it'll only be semi-terrible lol.

And yeah blurredvision, I'm glad to see the Lakers back to winning games a lot more easily than they were last season too (despite the poor rotation and transition defense ). :disgust:

If it were any other team, Phil Jackson would put an asterick on this squad for buying their way to a championship. ;)

Not that I believe they'll win it all... these old men will be worn down by the end of the season.

I could have gone to the game tonight (7th row seats), but I'm sick and didn't want to spend $300 right before the holidays.

I'll be seeing this legendary foursome in person sometime after the all-star break.
