Lakers beat Blazers 103-96 to take 2-0 first-round lead

Shaq had a great game (31 pts, 14 reb), Kobe had a great game (19 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast).

Blazers made it interesting toward the end cutting a 21-point lead down to as little as six but the Lakers held on. Seems people on sports shows who wrote off the Lakers before are know calling them the team to beat again 😉

Anyhow, that's two wins down, 13 to go

Should have been a bigger win, but I guess they wanted to make it interesting. Whatever, the result is the same, Lakers up 2-0. Gotta put them away in game 3!

Yeah...It would have been even closer if the Blazers could control their temper better...but I guess that comes with the lack of experience of having *not* won the past two championships 🙂

Lakers probably rested Kobe & Shaq towards the end, that's why it was close... I didnt watch the game, so I dont know for sure... but that would be my guess...

Have the Blazers ever play one game where they dont lose their cool??? man... even Pippen is getting into it....

<< Can you smell a 15-0 playoff record this year? 😀 😀 😀 >>

The Mavs are gonna run wild on the Lakers this year (it's all a matter of time - Shaq can't just hide under the basket like a no-skilled ape - oh wait he is one) I bet when the Mavs actually win the championship this year that you Laker boys will somehow say they won because of a fluke or something.

Definitely...their coach plays them that way and it works most of the time...but there's a real fine line between being fired up and being out of control...

LOL, do I smell denial? 😉

Lakers are going all the way this year whether you like it or not (assuming nothing disasterous like an injury or something). It doesn't matter all that much if they go 15-0, as long as they take it, which of course they will. 😉

Btw, you don't watch basketball much, do you? Don't worry, I was once ignorant of Shaq's skill and thought he was a dumb "ape sitting under the basket." 😉

Riiight...I remember a week ago there were people saying the Blazers were gonna take the Lakers out in 3 behind the strength of Ruben "Kobe Killer" Patterson 😉

Welp, the Lakers have a 2-0 lead and Patterson's managed to "kill" Kobe into scoring just 27.5 a game 🙂

But whatever...I'm glad that they still have to actually *play* the playoffs instead of just going off what people predict will happen 😉

As for Shaq, you obviously don't watch him play the game. He's got plenty of moves down low...Remember, 7-1 isn't *huge* for a center so there's no *natural* reason for him to dominate the way he does 😉

Well you didn't miss much. I thought the game was mostly a yawn. The only time it got remotely interesting was when the Blazers finally closed the gap somewhat in the 4th quarter. But even then it didn't get all that interesting. 😛

Has Shaq ever made a 3 pt shot in the NBA? or better yet, a 2 point shot from anywhere but under the basket? Anyway, take away Shaq or Kobe and you have a barely average .500 Laker team. You can take away any one of the Mav's stars and still have a team with a deep enough bench to score 100+ points a game.

"Nowitzki had 31 points and 15 rebounds, Finley had 28 points and eight rebounds, and Nash contributed 17 points and 17 assists.

The league's highest-scoring team also got a boost from its two late-season additions as Nick Van Exel scored 17 points and Raef LaFrentz had 14 points and 12 rebounds."

On a good night Nash is a 20+ pointer, Van Exel scored like 26 the first game, LaFrentz around 22. These aren't the same Mavs that the Lakers have rolled over in the past. I'll let the results speak for themselves when the Mavs win the 7 game series vs the Lakers. Lakers fans = (people in my sig) 😛

It's a good thing they have both of them then, no? 🙂

I for one have never said that Shaq and Kobe weren't awesome players who do more than their fair share to get wins for the Lakers...

RagingBITCH:

Can I say something, or are you going to bitch that all I ever do is talk bad about the Mavs?

Oooh, the 3-point shot, the true indicator of skill in the NBA. Craig Hodges used to be a hell of a three point shooter, ever heard of him? Didn't think so.

And BTW, yes Shaq has made a 3 pointer in the NBA.

Wow, there's some news, the Lakers aren't that good without their two superstars. How are we going to cope?

Yet they would still allow over 100 points in that same game. Psssst,.....defense wins championships.

"Shaquille O'Neal had 31 points and 14 rebounds, and Kobe Bryant added 19 points "

"Derek Fisher added 18 points and Rick Fox scored 13 for the Lakers, who outrebounded the Blazers 48-35."

Your point? I can post stats too.

We'll see, but something tells me we won't hear from you after that series.

What?!?!? Who the hell cares how he makes his points, no one can guard him. Geez, you'd think people would at least acknowledge total domination when they see it.

Anyway, take away Shaq or Kobe and you have a barely average .500 Laker team.

LMAO! Yeah right! Lets see here:

1. Horry
2. Fisher
3. Fox
4. Richmond
5. Hunter
6. George

Have you ever even watched these guys play before? Lakers are deeper than any other team except perhaps the Blazers. Even so, who the heck cares about statements like "if you take away Kobe and Shaq..." That's wishful thinking for Mav lovers. That's like saying "The Bulls would have been nothing without Jordan." TRUE, BUT SO WHAT.

Jordan was a great player and he made the plays and the points happen. Kobe and Shaq are the same way.

Well said trmiv! You speak my mind so well I just gave you a 10🙂 I love the city of portland, it's one of the best city I've been to, but why are their player so @^#(@%?

i think the blazers could possibly extend it to a game 5 if they when the next 2 at home, that would be intresting,

tell you the truth shaq is just big, fat pushes people around under the basket, and cant make free throws

since when did shaq have skill?

btw the officials today were horrible blazers couldent get a call.

I gotta admit, the Mavs are a good team. They're the only ones that stand a chance.

Did you guys see some of those moves Shaq tried to pull? My whole dorm floor literally erupted in laughter when he spun to the whole for a layup. That was great!

The Mavs can make good use of ZhiZhi Wang. The guy is big so Shaq will likely be on him, but then Wang can hit the outside shots.

I'll say those are the championship games right there.

yeah what a great travel! and they called a foul

DAMN SKIPPY. I don't even have to comment about the few ignorant remarks, there are plenty of intelligent Laker fans representing. 😀

I'm convinced some people have never watched an NBA game. Shaq makes no bones about the fact that he is big, and he does use his size, and he prefers to bang underneath but, don't think for a minute the man is not skilled. He has great footwork for a big man, some of the best since Olajuwon. His dropstep is absolutely devastating, and is one of his pet moves, and a good dropstep is a very skilled move. NBA bigmen are typically defined by their work in the post, and in that regard, Shaq has no equal. Also, I've seen Shaq go coast-to-coast, and finger roll the ball in. On the second to the last game of the season, he absolutely broke someone's ankles with a killer crossover. I also remember him doing that same move more than a few times this year.

Shaq does use his weight and strength, and does push people around, but if you had a huge physical advantage over people like he does, why wouldn't you use it? He'd be stupid not to. He has more size, and strength than any player in the NBA, to not use such an obvious advantage would be just dumb. I'm tired of weak NBA players that don't play their size, that is something you can never accuse Shaq of. Shaq is a big man, and he plays a big man's game.

Besides, regardless of how skilled you think some of Shaq's scores are, they still count for two points. Last I checked, they didn't award skill points in the NBA. No matter what you haters want to say, the man gets it done year after year, injured or not, to the tune of 28 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks, 57% shooting, one regular season MVP, two finals MVP's, and two NBA championships. Keep hating all you want, Shaq just keeps getting it done.

Shaq gets sent to the line more than anybody and deservedly so...and if you watch carefully, they don't call half the stuff they would if it were any other player getting hacked like that.
