i'm sorry to hear. my company is going through it as well and i feel that there's a good chance i'm getting the axe.

may i ask what industry you work in and your role?

btw... i heard unemployment checks only go as high as $400 a month.

Well, i work freight, not small packages.. did work i guess. Forklift driving... heavy arkward crap.


Damn and i like that job. Back to school i guess. Maybe its a sign to get my ass back into school. I know i need English classes bad.

1. Update your Resume ASAP
2. get a list of job search places, companies, etc
3. update your network
4. work out, get fit 🙂
 
Good luck man. A whole bunch of people in my industry got laid off. Pepsi left and since Chrysler shut down, a lot of the creatives at this certain agency was told to get going within 3 hours. These were even award winners.

Don't spend it doing nothing.
 
I was laid-off on 1/1/06 after 5 years of service. I got no notice or severance, only a 'please leave the office now'. With a mortgage, two new cars, and two young children, it was a pretty big gut-check for our family. It took a few months to find another job and it actually gave me time to study for the exam of my life. After I secured new employment I took great pleasure in seeing my former company fail and the dipshit bi-polar manager run everything into the ground. Now my job, occupation, and field (to a certain extent) are pretty solid regardless of the economy and I keep hearing about subsequent failures of my former manager.
 
I'd say go to DHL but...

Sorry man. Definitely get your resumé in order, and start your research on the next job. This may be downtime for some but for you it should be as busy as possible. Hopefully you'll (everyone else too) find something before the end of January.

DHl just laid off abunch of people also. Nothing is secure in the package industry. People and compaines dont have the money to ship things because no-one is buying stuff really. UPS FREIGHT, Conway, Fed Ex Freight, Wakins (fed ex freight now), ETC all laid off people.


My resume is empty. All i have is UPS ... this doesnt look good.

It's bootstrap time -- school and a "get-by" job. Don't be too proud, and don't dawdle. Get angry and stay focused. Just don't stoop to selling crack or Amway. Amway kills (friendships.) 😉

A blessing in disguise? Going back to school maybe the best option. I hear that people are still hiring health care professionals.
