Lag in WoW is way out of hand.

I play on Low population servers and the lag is killing me. Every 10 minutes it seems people in the general channel start yelling out "LAG" and soon i begin to feel its effects. I cant play like this. How much longer is the "it just launched" and the "they are a victim of their own success" excuses end and blizzard actually does something with the money we pay them per month to maintain the servers? I mean, im on a low population server, with a 40 ping, and everyone including myself is getting it. It seems to get worse everytime they try to fix it.

Damn, i wish i had went with EQ2 over WoW, but i have so many high level characters in WoW, everquest 2 may not be as fun but from what i hear i can actually play it for good lengths of time without it lagging everyone on the server. I love WoW but i dont pay $15 a month to be in some chat room every 2 minutes out of 10 minutes. How long before blizzard actually does something?

Thank you for holding - you're call is important to us.

I would'nt worry about it. A company of that caliber will fix whatever is wrong with their games.

It was REALLY bad tonight. IF was a slideshow for me.

I play on a low population server. It was one of the servers that was a problem during the second round of outages.

Edit: Blizzard didn't make any chances today, did they? Cone of Cold acts differently for me, instead of starting out to the right and moving left, it's more random now

I agree, the server-side lag is awful as of late, and very frustrating. For the past few weeks it had been great, which led me to believe the growing pains were over with. However, take it from a long-time EQ1 player - you're lucky you didn't go with EQ2. I've gone into it in depth in a few posts, suffice to say Sony is a scuzzy, sleazy, unethical corporation, and that this mentality finds its way into each and every one of their products and services. EQ2 is no exception. While I feel your pain, WoW is by far the lesser of two evils, if you even want to label it one.

This sounds like client-side lag; ie your PC & video card have trouble handling the character models of the hundreds of players typically in Ironforge, and so it gets choppy there. This isn't Blizzard's fault; you need to tone down your settings and/or upgrade your PC.

Well I played EQ2 for almost 2 months before WoW and I must have missed all this evilness you claim exists. Sorry, but the EQ2 devs are doing a damn nice job with their game whether you like it or not.

Well, a quick rundown.... Sony has a habit of "accidentally" double billing customers, leaving it to said customers to work it out with their credit card company. They make nary a mention of this, of course, and so end up keeping it from the people who don't notice. You're required to click "no thanks" to a nagscreen offer every time you log in, and are subjected to in-game advertising as well. They pay their dev team a pittance, meaning it's understaffed & underqualified. Storylines read like bad B movies, everything is incredibly buggy, itemization is awful... They crank these expansions out every few months, each one making gear from the last obsolete so as to force purchase - carrot & stick at its finest. These are top-down things; true of all Sony games because of what kind of corporation Sony is. While a few may not hold true for its flagship service (eq2) at the moment, rest assured it will soon enough. More is never enough for Sony; they milk you for everything they can get until they're trying to squeeze blood from a stone - and even then they persist in squeezing. The type of person willing to put up with this is generally young (ie isn't the one paying and doesn't care - thanks mommy & daddy) or not very bright, and as the playerbase is a large factor in game enjoyment, this is a further detriment to their games.

This is true too - I've got a GB of ram coming (hopefully) today, but I'm kind of expecting a damaged package since it sat in the Indy terminal for two days before moving my way.

Other than my video card, which isn't too shoddy itself (Ti4200 with 128mb ram), my PC's only real bottleneck before was the 512mb ram.

I just don'tet the appeal of this game. But that's just me.
What is not just me is that you guys are actually paying monthly fees to play this game and the servers still suck.
Blizzard is laughing at you all.

I've been playing WoW lately, and I agree, the lag is unbearable. I play on an average load server and even then its extremely laggy. During peak time, you can't even use the auction house as it won't show anything.

For the other one, Eq2 performs wonderfully, no lag at all anywhere and the zones just instance when there is too much people. The main issue is that Sony doesn't listen to anyone, does what they want and the game isn't all that much fun. They are however adding stuff and in March will have the first adventure pack (4.99$ one) and also in March is coming Mentoring (read up on that, it's very interesting, CoH does it I believe). *

*I have 2 Eq2 accounts still active- and my comments are from the crafting point of view, not adventuring.

Which is funny, because playing on Archimonde, supposedly a High pop PvP server, I don't notice near as much lag as people are talking about.

I'll tell ya though, going from 512mb -> 1gb made all the difference in the world on gryphon rides and even in IF. :)

the squeaky wheel gets the grease

not all servers suffer from this problem, but the players in the realms that are working fine are too busy playing to complain on the internet so you would never know this

in my case 512->1 gb made a huge difference in "lag"

Couple of notes first:

1. Why is anyone surprised that gurck will come into a thread about a competitor of a product he hates and mention the product he hates? He is also likely to go into an EQ2 thread and post there about how much he hates EQ2 if it's anything like his other product opinions. That's his MO and that's why we all love gurck... it's nice to have a familiar conversation every day.

2. However, that spot is reserved for gurck who has at least somewhat legitimate arguments and therefore this idiot troll ike needs to stop trolling in WoW threads just to say how he doesn't get WoW.

Anyway, on my server it hasn't been too bad. I've been playing pretty regularly. However, last night it WAS bad. Really bad. My guild was doing a craptastic raid of xRoads. I died and it literally took me 5 minutes from when I clicked release to go into wisp form. At that point I was able to walk around but my body did not exist and no other PCs or NPCs existed either. When I logged out and in it didn't seem to help, but eventually everything went back to normal.

That was the only server side lag I've experienced in a long time. Unless you count hearthstone lag problems. Which may not be lag problems at all (no NPCs show up - fixed by logging out and in).

Not having any problems on Gorefiend...
sorry bud..
EQ2 is no free ride either.. the only thing that SOE has over blizzard on this is that they have done this before...
EQ and SWG and PlanetSide helped them know what they needed for it to be successful on the network side...
also keep in mind that EQ2 is not selling half as many copies according to sales figures..
they are at 350K where as WoW is at 750k+ US and 400k+ in Europe..
thats alot of users to support...
and Blizzard has never run an MMO before.. cut them a little slack..
only certain server clusters are having such a hard time.. other clusters are running fine..

becasue Archimonde and Gorefiend and a few other servers are on a rebuilt database and a new cluster.. remeber Archimonde crashed second day of release and took its cluster with it causing them to rebuild it..
Archimonde and Goirefiend and serveral other server are on this better cluster and we have very little lag.

I'm all for competition. I'm not all for unethical business practices, and I call quality as I see it. If I were bashing competition for fanboy sake why would I focus attention only on Sony and Apple?

The point is not that your arguments are invalid, it's that you bring them up all the time with minimal prompting even if the OP and everyone else doesn't particularly want to discuss it again. I guess you may have been making some half-hearted attempt at making the OP feel better here, which is a much more chivalrous reason than normal.
