Hi guys,

I just upgrade from GF2 MX to GF4 TI4200 (ASUS V9280). Too sad is it is still lag while playing Commanche4 when there are lots of enemy. Seem like just waste my $$ on this upgrade.

My CPU is P4 1.5G 512RDRAM, ASUS P4T MBO. Is CPU draw my performance??

How you guys experience in Commanche4? pls state your hardware as well...

If that P4 is a Williamette core (i.e. only 256KB L2 cache and only 423 pins on the chip) I'd say it is your CPU not the GF4. I used to own a GF4 Ti 4200 and it gamed VERY well.

CPU: AMD AthlonXP 2100+ Tbred "B" @ 2172MHz (166MHz FSB)
Motherboard: Epox 8RDA+
Memory: 2 x 512MB CAS2 Kingston HyperX PC2700
Video Card: VisionTek GF4 Ti 4200 128MB DDR @ 275/550 (bios modded and ramsinks intstalled) Det. 30.82
Operating System: WinXP Pro SP1 with DX 9.0a

This combo easily handled anything and everything I threw at it.

too bad is, i have no budget to upgrade a CPU since it need to change MBO and RAM as well.

so, i could say that it is a waste for me to upgrade from GF2MX400 to GF4TI4200, agree???

What resolution do you run at? Do you use AA or aniso? I run the game perfectly at 1600x1200 with some aniso. I would think you would able to as well. I'd drop the resolution (and AA/aniso if applicable) and see if the game still chops up. Its possible there is some other problem causing the slowdown.

Btw, I'm running an XP 2000+, 512 mb of ram, and a gf4ti4400.

Games like Commanche 4 and Flight Sim 2002 and racing sims use a lot of CPU power to constantly calculate physics and such. A 1.5 Ghz P4 isn't enough for those type of games when you get a bunch of stuff on the screen. Mess with the settings and see if you can run less detail to get smoother gameplay.

BTW... getting low FPS in a game is not normally called lag... I don't know about most of you, but when I hear lag, I think of internet connection problems in multi-player games. Low FPS is just low FPS to me, not lag.

Upgrading from GF2 MX to GF4Ti4200 is a great upgrade. I am sure you noticed some improvement. Recommend you reduce graphics detail until its acceptable to you; e.g. 800x600, no AA, no Ansio, etc. Also, a GF4Ti4200 is a great investment as it will scale performance if and when you upgrade cpu. You might attempt an FSB overclock to see if your perfomance improves with cpu speed. Good Luck.

You should look at that Powerleap adapter and the 2.6GHz P4 on the 400fsb.

i've tried lowest resolution with lowest detail, not help at all :(
BTW, what is the performance vs. quality if enabling AA or aniso ?? Not really familiar with this cause most of the time i leave them default by driver.

Hmm...something's really wrong then. Uhm....make sure DMA is enabled on all of your cdroms and hard drives.

It's your processor... it doesn't have the balls to account for everything on the screen. The video card does the graphics... the processor has to figure all the physics and position and artificial intelligence of everything... you can put an ATI 9800 Pro 256 MB card in it, and it's not going to help because it's your CPU that's slowing you down.

Jeff7181, i believe you are right. WOW, surprisingly the game has all the sophisticated physics calculation.

so i could make a conclusion that how a game is displayed... resolution or graphic details is depend solely on AGP while game performance is on CPU?

My 3dMark'03 is 138X, is this score acceptable for 1.5G + GF4TI4200??

No.

I score that with my Geforce 3 and my 1.4
