Does a woman dressed in red get your attention more readily?

Women who wear red get more men, sez study

Scarlett Johansson is beautiful, but add some red and according to a new study, she may very well be irresistible.

The lady in red really does get what she wants.

A new study shows men find red-dressed women more attractive - and are even willing to shell out more on a date.

"Something as ubiquitous as color can [have] an effect on our behavior without our awareness," study author Andrew Elliot said.

Men were more likely to give high ratings to women wearing red, and found women to be sexier when their clothing was digitally altered in photos to appear red.

Guys also were asked if they had $100, how they would spend on a hypothetical date with different women.

They vowed to fork out more on the ladies wearing red.

In five experiments, University of Rochester psychologists tested how different colors affected men' attitudes toward women.

The study, published in an upcoming edition of the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, is believed to mark the first time scientists have confirmed the red effect in relationships.

Elliot and his co-author Daniela Niesta said social conditioning could be responsible for the draw of red.

It could also have deeper biological roots because baboons and chimpanzees are also known to be attracted to females displaying red.

The red effect only seemed to apply to perceptions of attractiveness or sexual desirability.

It did nothing to boost the women's ratings in terms of likability, intelligence or kindness.

I've been hearing this for years, at least since the 1980s.
