Gas-X or something with Simethicone in it is the only thing that works for me (same lactose-intolerant problem). I've used Mylanta, Zantac, Tums, Rolaids, Gaviscon, Pepto Bismol, Kaopectate...all of it. The only thing that works is Gas-X with plenty of water.

given the amount of lactose intolerance present in our population, why aren't some cows engineered to make something other than lactose in their milk?

jonnyGURU, cheese does not contain significant amounts of lactose.

This and many other sites have info about this.

Seeing as how you have a weakness for pizza, perhaps you should eat less of it instead of a lot of pizza . :)

That way it might not be so harsh on your system.

I must have an EXTREME intolerance. To give you an idea of how sensitive my stomach is:

Put milk in coffee? THAT much milk is enough to screw me up. Bowl of ceral with milk? Nope. Can't do. Gotta use the Acidopholus milk.

Cheese does a number on me, although not as bad as straight milk. I can't finish off a cheese sampler at Dunderbak's and when my mom in law makes a cheese ball, I have to stop half way through, but I can usually finish off a whole pizza and not have any problems, but this might be the grease too. :(

i feel for ya bro..i can totally relate to the lactose intolerant thing...i first discovered it when i had cereal w/milk...then of course on my way to work...*ahem*....*DOOHHHH!*....hahaha...twuz pretty bad...
and i hear ya w/da pizza...i loooove pizza...anything more than 2 slices tho and i'm gone...i know it was stated before, but just drink lots of liquids and let loose...it's the only way...oh and of coures to remember to take lactaid or sumthin before u down pizza or anythin else w/dairy...if u really wanna go hardcore at it and clean out your system, i suggest you go to a chinese drugstore and ask for Po Chi Lam, it'll be in the form of a lot of small little balls in a small plastic vile...i was given one of those..dang!!!....i think i lost like 5 pounds in one sitting...LOL...didn't know the sphincter was able to take that much punishment...hahaha...but it totally cleaned me out, probably better than a colon cleansing...:p

I am really bad intolerance also, what I usually do if I have accidentaly taking in some lactose(note: cheese and yogart for the most part do not affect me) I just have to wait it out. Sucks, but I have yet to find anything that helps.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't think it was possible for your body to relearn how to digest milk. Once you lose the ability to produce lactate, that's it. For life. We are the only species on the planet that drinks milk after reaching adulthood. Well, some people give cats milk but again that's human intervention.

Maybe I should have those Sweedish engineers, that Patrick Palm of PC Resources knows, engineer a new kind of cow that gives non-lactose milk!

SWEET!

I just woke up and went to the "room" and feel MUCH better now... but look at the time! My whole day is shot. I feel a little weak to. Haven't eaten and not too hungry. :(

(reminder: Warn wife about hall bathroom.)

PS: I don't know what, if anything, "did the trick", but I took BOTH Zantac AND Gas-X. :p
