not completely... there are different designers for different brands, but they work with GM platforms, similar to how VW/Audi/Lambo/etc share platforms (and soon Porsche)

What do you mean, "and soon Porsche"? The Touareg and Cayenne already share a platform and Porsche has been developing platforms for VW since the 1950's (the 914 shared more than just the platform and the 924 was supposed to be entirely VW even though Porsche did all the design work).

ZV

while true, there are some additional platforms about to be shared in addition to those, i guess i worded it wrong.

It's quite nice looking actually.

It's all subjective.

Definitely. Nothing worse than having some of the the best reliability and quality in the class...Buick has been top-notch the last couple years, this isn't anything new. Now that they have the quality in-place, they are making their offerings much more fresh, sounds pretty smart for me.

This isn't my car, but I am not in the market for a large sedan right now.

I just walked by a new white one in my client's parking garage and I have to say I took a double take...I couldn't believe there was a Buick badge on the back...I was thinking it must be something else. If I was just looking for a commuter car, I'd seriously have to consider the 3.6L version of this car. It really is quite striking in person.

It looks great inside and out except for that old looking display.

One problem I see with getting any Lexus converts is that there will be a cheap 4 cylinder Lacrosse. That will hurt the image of the car, imo.

If that 4 cylinder came with a slick 6-spd...and market it as the young, sporty model...maybe it wouldn't hurt the image...at least in some people's eyes...but probably not the buying public unfortunately.

when did sporty become a euphemism for slow and cheap?

'the sporty corolla'

If it drops the weight and they tighten up the suspension tuning with the reduced weight, the car could handle in a much more sporty manner and with a 6-spd manual...you are likely to have much more fun than with a power sapping, eco-fied slushbox. Sure it isn't a sports car, but it could be a lot more fun to drive relative to the V6 models. Would it be a sports car...hell no...but sportier...very possibly.

A crappy corolla with a 4 spd slushbox that just has groud affects does not make it sporty, but putting a short throw 6spd and enhancing the suspension significantly could create a relatively "sporty" corolla. Unfortunately the auto manufacturers almost never do that...or do it well.

the 117 lbs dropped makes hardly a dent in the car's weight. it'd be like the difference between driving it with a full tank and driving it empty. the 3.6 V6 is already takes 7.5 seconds to get to 60 (edmunds.com). the 4 banger will barely take a diesel F350.

practically no one who is interested in this 4000 lbs large car will want a stick or sport suspension. those people buy bmw, infiniti, and maybe cadillac.

hence my statement:

I don't think it would be a good business decision, but it could be a reasonably fun car. Speed != sporty in my eyes. Granted we're talking about a really heavy car...so I don't know how much "suspension tuning" could really be done to make this more fun to drive...but I still hold by my opinion that you don't have to have a fast car to make it sporty...and fast cars are not necessarily sporty (see Dodge Challenger).

and sporty is a euphemism for cheap and slow. 'like the fuel sipping camry or the sporty corolla'
