Normally, FOX News coverage is entertaining and informative, even if the "fair and balanced" coverage leans just a bit to the Right, and I tend to watch FOX for most of my news. However, I think this up to the minute Laci Peterson coverage is a bit excessive. At this very moment, there's a discussion of the Bush economic plan, and a blurb on the bottom of the screen states that the current FOX News Alert is that they're waiting for a news conference on Laci. Yes, it's tragic. Yes, I hope she's ok and they find her and her baby (if it's born) safe. No, I don't think she's alive (tragically), and yes, I think the husband may have had something to do with it.

But to devote a good 40% of FOX's total news coverage to this? Let's think about what else is going on in the world: North Korea has dropped out of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, and they have announced that they may resume ballistic missile testing. We have the continuing War On Terror, and the ongoing erosion of civil rights in America (I could be deemed an Enemy Combatant for saying that, probably). We have the Iraq situation and everything that goes along with it (Saudi Arabia, Turkey, etc..) We have the Bush economic plan, and the Democratic response, and we have the economy in general. We have state-level budget shortfalls in the billions of dollars, and also at the state level, we have the actions of the Illinois state governor and his clearing of death row. And let's not forget the ricin issue in the UK.

Bleh. FOX needs to get some priorities right.
 
I've been following the news about the missing pregnant lady out in California, and as time goes on it doesn't look to good for her now.

I think Fox is doing a great job along with other broadcast companies. I'm sure the family thinks more can/should be done. In order for the general public to be informed. I'm sure her husband probably agrees with you.

Yup, I agree with you, he has a gf and lied about it to Laci's family so I'm wondering what else he is lying about.

As for FOX, there are lot of news to cover in this world. Yes, Iraq and NK are certainty important news but

there millions of events occuring in this world and some of those events/stories needs to be covered as well.

I heard that some pics were published in a sleazy tabloid of him with another woman.......but that could be anyone. Do they know who she is yet? Who took the pictures anyway? Any links to them?

Anyway....he is saying it's all bull....or he was last I heard
 
I've only caught a little bit of this on Fox News but did anyone else see the boat he supposedly took out on the San Francisco Bay during very choppy conditions on Christmas Eve? It was a little dinghy! If he had taken that thing out then it would be he that the authorities were searching for and not his wife!

In any case, Fox isn't doing anything different than all the other channels have done in similar circumstances (Jon Benet Ramsey, that crazy lady that drove her car into the lake with her two children in it and then told everyone that two black guys car-jacked her and took off with the kids). You can almost say that they are performing a public service in the search (though it does border on overkill).

I'm strictly going by what Laci's family is saying. They said at first they were behind Scott Peterson

and completely supported him until they discovered that he had a gf. They then asked Scott Peterson

if he had a gf, his response was no. But they say they have evidence that he had a gf while married

to Laci Peterson.

what did they think when they found out he had taken out a $250,000 life insurance policy on her?

 
I don't know whether he's guilty or not, but a picture of him dancing with another woman means nothing, it's just sensationalism.

This weekend, my wife danced with another man my family doesn't know. It was harmless dancing. If I disappeared today, the police could show a picture of it to my family and lead them to lots of conclusions.

There wasn't just a picture but I think there was a woman by the last name of "Smart" I believe that was saying that she was his g/f.
 
i live less than a mile from where she disappeared.

we have multiple laci peterson stories on every single segment of the news.
it's in the local paper every day.
we have a bunch of reporters & vans.
we have missing posters plastered everywhere.

it's as bad as the gary condit situtation.

I don't think its unusual to take out a life insurance policy when you find out you are going to have a child.

I agree.
I feel sorry for the guy. He is being tried by the media.

They were interviewing some "expert" on CNN who was advising him how to look less guilty.....he should appear before cameras and make public pleas for her safe return, learn from how Van Dammes did it etc.......what a crock of sh!t....what is that going to acheive???.

No one knows. The public hasn't seen any of these photos and I'm sure the $$ is there to leak them. Sounds like grasping at straws to me.
I'm not sure a picture is evidence enough to call anyone a GF, unless you're caught "inflagrante delicto".
Dude needs to take a polygraph and quit with the stonewalling. That alone casts doubt on him.

Oh, and, as far as I'm concerned, one of the greatest thing the media can do is offer reports on missing people who, through those efforts, might be found. What, do you want more car crashes televised or more pictures of homicide scenes?
 
my only hope is that most of you "he looks happy, and cheated, so he must be a killer" people, aren't on any jury that me or anyone I care about has to face.

condit would've been supported by the locals forever if the chandra levy thing hadn't happened.
he projected a clean-cut, down-to-earth, family-man image for years that went over well.
he provided good service as a local, then state, then national politician.

when stories of chronic, long-term serial philandering & lies came out, people just couldn't accept or forgive.
not that condit made any attempt to tell the truth & ask for forgiveness - if he had done so early, then he might still be in office.

it also seemed that he lost it the last few months, based on his statements & the letters he (and his children) sent to voters.
 
It's their flavor of the week. Just like the sniper shootings, west nile, anthrax, etc. They do that all the time.

i try to keep an open mind, because his (Scott Peterson's) situation is the worst nightmare imaginable.
 
if he did it, would he not have tried to arrange a better alibi than - I was fishing, alone.....here's my parking ticket...

I have no problem with FOX reporting on Laci Peterson. The problem that I had when I originally posted was that FOX was devoting something like 40% of their total coverage to the story, constantly interrupting everything else they were doing. I consider that excessive.

I have no comment about other networks' coverage, as I was not watching them at the time.
 
Until you have lost a loved one, you have no idea what kind of emotions you are able to display. You are cold inside. You don't know if you should laugh because you might come across as uncaring that someone died or in this case you might come across as the killer.

When is he allowed to laugh again?

All of that and then think about what you would be like to not know if a loved one was alive or dead, tortured or abused, raped or mutilated. Until you are in those shoes, you don't know what goes through a mind. That makes knowing your loved one is dead not seem so rough. I can only hope that if a loved one were to come up missing, I would be able to stay positive and upbeat until they are back or found dead.
