OK the g/f laptop is stuck in sleepmode/hibernation. Here's what she said happened... System was left on with the screen up for hours....when she got back it was in sleep mode. She couldn't get it out of sleep mode then...and after turning it on it resumed directly into sleepmode. There was just no response...nothing on the screen, the sleep light indicator is on, you can hear the HD powering up, and thats it.
I've exausted all ideas...reset cmos...discharched the battery and even capacitors, ripped everything apart leaving only the m/b, and video and it stills turns on into sleep mode.
Hmm i just had an idea... could the lithium battery be dead? So what would happen if you boot without the cmos battery?
I ask about the ram because i have heard of problems where ram was interfereing with the sleep operation. The system has only 32 megs of ram. With the ram removed or placed in the other slot it still stuck in sleep. So i'm thinking maybe the ram is not being detected. So the question once again is, what usually happens when you boot up a laptop without any ram? do you get memory errors beep? I would like to know before i end up getting ram to test this unprobable solution.
As of right now it seems like the M/B is bad. So how much would it cost and the difficulty in obtaining a replacement M/B. I'm not too familiar with laptops but seems easily enough to replace after having already disected everything else. Anyone got any other ideas or suggestions? Thanks in for any help in advance.
Notebook stats:
IBM Thinkpad iSeries 1412
PII 400
32MB Ram
and all other basics which i'm too lazy to look up right now
And no warrenty left
and its just a little over a year old...
