I got a couple of these thanks to the OD $15 coupon deal. Plain and simple, if you don't have decent speakers yet, these will hold you over until you can hook up a home stereo or massive computer system.

The bass is definitely there. In fact it's so strong I have to turn down the sub and change my mixer settings at night so I don't wake up my roommate with booming :)

The only minus is a definite lack of midrange. I tried watching a couple DVDs this week and can't hear any dialogue as mentioned before. Had to switch back to my normal home stereo JBLs. Some cheap Altec ACS-22s or the likes should take care of the mids though and allow a 5.1 setup :)

Yes, that is my main complaint about these speakers. When I'm watching DVDs, I have a hard time hearing the dialog. Also, I don't get the same 3D positioning effect as I do with my other speakers. I wish there was some way to use another pair of satellites with the subwoofer.

What's weird is that I can hear the words to music pretty clearly. For listening to CDs and MP3s, these are pretty good speakers for the price.

Yuck, didn't know about the DVD issue. Was planning on using mine with my new system as a DVD playback system. Crap, the wife won't like that (she loves these for music). Anyone recommend something in this price range that might be better for DVD?

bought a pair (02/28/01) at OD and they rang up $29.95! It was the last pair at that store , but maybe another store has'em. They are pretty good speakers for the buck!

Received the speakers today! I love them, UT sounds a diff game with these speakers. Using my generic "amplified speaker system" as rear speakers and now I have way cool 4.1!!!

I got these from buy.com a while back, using a coupon, and let's just say that on my second system they kick some butt. I have ACS-48's on my main system, but these definitely have the bang for the buck. Great speakers for the $ you pay.

I personally have those ACS 54 by Altec Lansing. I love em to death, but they just don't have the bass...the sub in this Labtec on is almost TWICE the size as the ACS54's. I am thinking about getting one of these, combine it w/ my ACS54, and have a kickass system for under $100
ACS54+Labtec Sub
total of 6 Sattelites, w/ headphone jack and sub level control
wahoo!!!

Can anyone tell me if these would be an acceptable replacement for
some Newcom NC300 speakers w/ NC400 Sub? I blew one of the midrange
drivers on the left satellite of the NC300 awhile back and they sound
awful now (unless I fade to the right, then I lose the sub).

Specs:
NewCom NC300 Stereo Speakers 3-way 30w 70Hz-20KHz Neo-Radial Technology SP9N535 $84.98

NewCom NC400 Subwoofer 30w 30Hz-300KHz Subwoofer SP5N928 $64.98

I'm guessing RMS output was in the 15W range?

The nice thing was that the NewCom (while now out of business) had
two 3" midrange drivers and a 1" tweeeter for each satellite.
Looking at the Pulse, they're kinda dinky. But appearances can be
deceiving.

I just read the article about the labtec pulse 424 2.1 speaker in the Maximum PC magazine. this thing is a "kick ass" product. i mean, with such small amount of money, you got a very powerfull sound system.

the suggestion is, buy two of it for $39.99 x 2
and you will got a powerfull sound system with only under 100 bucks. =)

I bought these for my brother in law about a week or two ago from buy.com. I purchased other things to bump it over a 100 for free shipping. I think I got the better deal. Oh by the way they rock!

Picked up a set for my Mom so she can rock to her Napster show tunes. Fast, free shipping at Onvia! :)

Just hooked them up for her. Dean Martin is sounding mighty smooth because of the bass. Talk about deals, I got a free lunch!

MaximumPC reviewed these in the issue I got yesterday and gave them a 9; they couldn't believe how good they were for the price (and they had them at $50, not $35). They kept going-- are these really from Labtec?? Got myself a set at OnVia just now.

Dyne3d:
In the same review, MaxPC suggests getting two sets for a nice 4.2 setup. I'm guessing you can take their word that it should work.

Those with midrange problems:
Have you guys messed around with the crossover to lower the frequency range that gets routed to the subwoofer only? Sorry if that's totally obvious, but I just remembered reading in the review that you could do that.

If you can find them for less than $50. Line up to buy these!
These push so much bass into your ear, its not funny!
Onvia.com Has them for about 35 bucks. They kick major ass for the price.

Ok I just got these
I must say they are pretty damn good for 35 bucks but by no means are they better than speakers in the $150 range! Seriously, I think the Cambridge speakers in the $100 range are better. These speakers have kinduva muddy midrange sound and the sub gets distorted pretty easily. For $35 though, there's nothing that can touch them. Highly recommended unless you have more cash to blow on speakers. You do get what you pay for, to an extent.
