My dad wants me to get my sister a cell phone because she just started driving. I'm looking to get her a lower payment plan, possibly 30 bucks a month. Which cell phone company is the best in terms of reception, price, and plan? Thanks for all the help!

Verizon is the best for reception in my area and most areas I've been to, but their plans are expensive for what you get. I use Verizon b/c my friends and family do, but if I wanted the best mix of reception and features and minutes, I'd go with T-Mobile.

T-mobile, verizon supposedly gets the best reception in LA, but their cs sucks. My mom's phone died after 3 days of a new contract and they didn't want to give her a new one.

That's complete bullsh!t. All Verizon phones come with at least a one-year warranty, AND they have a 15-day worry-free guarantee where if you're not satisfied within that 15-day window, you can cancel your contract with no penalty other than airtime you've already used.

There's no way Verizon would refuse to take a phone back after three days.

I have Cingular the plans are cheap and the phones are much better then Verizon. That said Verizon has better overall coverage in So Cal.

Cingular has really improved recently, and with the integration of the Cingular-ATT network, you can expect their service to improve dramatically in the coming months.

tmobile...same network as cingular in SoCal but cheaper plans.

if you travel a lot, go with cingular -- they have better nationwide coverage.

verizon if you like ugly phones and plans that cost $$ and rely on your ability to communicate as life support.

i like cingular, has treated me well these past years... altho', like someone said, if you're just gonna be in so cal, t-mobile has some good prices and their phones are pretty much the same as cingular's phones...

not a big fan of verizon phones myself, but to each his own.

What part of Los Angeles do you live in!?

Verizon has, bar-none, the best coverage in Los Angeles. I have friends with T-Mobile, Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T, living in Santa Monica, West LA, Downtown, Alhambra, Rowland Heights, Chino Hills, Pasadena, the SF Valley, and as far as Irvine, and without doubt Verizon has better coverage. I have yet to find a place where I (with Verizon) cannot get a signal and a Sprint phone can.

I can't really comment on the cheaper plans or better phones comment, but the V710, due out in a couple of weeks, is a really nice phone. Plans wise, I think all the companies are pretty competitive.

Are you trying to make phone calls or a fashion statement? If looking cool when making phone calls is more important than good coverage without dropped signals, you really have your priorities out of order.
