Watched a handful of videos on this game today and it looks like a lot of fun. Visually it looks really fantastic but for some reason the game is kicking my machines ass.
I've got a wolfdale @ 3.6, 5870 & 8gb 1066 so something is wrong because no matter what I do I'm getting like 2fps.

Anyway...this game looks just amazing. Anyone playing it?
How is it and how does it perform for you?

I bought it on Steam and had high hopes. I played for a couple of hours and was pretty meh on it. Seemed to be too many cut-scenes... I don't know. I might give it another try. It does look good and it performed well on my GT560Ti.

I bought it on Amazon download and the game wouldn't even load. I got a refund.

Fantastic game, and I wish there were more like it. Compelling storyline, interesting characters, and mysterious cases that are legitimately interesting, and make you think in order to solve them. All topped with a cinematic 40's theme.

OP, are you using the latest drivers (as well as the latest patch for the game)? I'd check here: http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/L.A._Noire

I bought through amazon on a disc and can't run it. Kept it in case there is ever a fix out or anything. Really depressing as it looks great.

Runs well here, for the most part (DX11 Steam version; 2700K @ 4.6, 8Gb 1866, 560Ti) -- some occasional mild stuttering and texture popping, but nothing too bothersome or immersion-breaking. Only have a couple of the Arson cases left to complete now.

I thought it was a great game.

Download Art Money...it will take the 30FPS cap off the game....enjoy.

It's a cool adventure game, although it gets pretty repetitive after a while. Still it is pretty fun, and there aren't many modern adventure games even available to play. I actually prefer to play the old Tex Murphy games, but I have quite a few hours logged in LA Noire as well.

I tried this, but switched back. Mabye it was because I had already sunk so many hours in at 30fps, but I like the film-like quality it gives the visuals (and that they give you the option to play it in B&W suggests this was intentional). It looked more like videotape to me at 60fps.

It's great, though, that the choice is available, whichever one you prefer.

Any ideas why the amazon version won't run? If you look on amazon games reviews there are many 1 star ratings with the same issue.

Have you tried any of the suggestions in the Amazon reviews? It looks as though at least some people have gotten around patching and launch issues:

I assume the price has dropped so drastically because of the issues people are having getting the game to run. Here's what I did to get it to work:

1) Go into the directory c:\program files\Rockstar games\La Noire. Delete all the PATCHED FILES. (These are from your failed first attempt to patch.)

2) In your game folder there is an application that says Patch and it has a bunch of numbers after it. BEFORE YOU CLICK ON THIS FILE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ARE RUNNING THE PATCH APPLICATION AS THE ADMINISTRATOR. To do this right-click on the icon, go to the properties tab and check the "run as administrator" box. (It took me ages to figure this out, because I only changed the application that launches the game to run as administrator.)

Make sure you're running the game file as the administrator as well. You might need to uninstall and reinstall the game. If you need to re-install the game, don't launch it until after you click on the patch file.

Also:

"Are you getting the error "Error binary patching file FileName LANLauncher.exe" when the 2nd patch is running?

The fix was pretty asinine.

I had to reinstall it to C:\Program Files\RockstarGames\L.A.Noire (notice that RockstarGames had to become one word; no spaces) as opposed to the default of C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\L.A. Noire"

I can verify that I had the same issue others are complaining about here, and this fix did work. I had to unsinstall the game completely from the original default directory, then re-download and install the game to the suggested directory above. Also please note, if you need to download the game again from Amazon, you cannot use the same L_A_Noire_Downloader.exe from your original purchase. Apparently Amazon's download exe's are one-time use only, so you need to go into your Amazon software library and download another .exe launcher.

Also:

I got it working. Install it so that the folder names contain no spaces. I installed it on my secondary HDD, so that the folder tree looked like this: D:\Games\LA_Noire

Didn't realize so many people were having trouble -- I just bought the complete, patched version w/DLC on sale from Steam and it ran fine. Looks like lots of YMMV for this one.

Please try and support Steam for this reason among many others.

I support Steam. I mainly purchase my games on Steam and the occasional deals on Amazon. However...... is it too much to ask for a game to at least start up after you purchase it. I can understand some glitches and some other types of issues in game, etc but I'm not alone when on this when I can't even get the game to start up and I've tried everything possible I've read on the support sites and various forums.

Looks like PEBKAC to me. I had absolutely no problems playing the game.

I've been an IT professional for 15 years and PC gaming for over 25 years now....believe me I've exhausted my research on the Internet and still couldn't get this turd to work. And I really wanted to get it to work. And if you did a quick search, i'm not the only one who had trouble with this game. Read the Amazon reviews alone. Yeah so not quite PEBKAC here but since you got it to work, obviously there is no issues whatsoever in the world.

There were a lot of unhappy Amazon customers, to be sure.

One thing you might want to look out for are Amazon downloads that activate through Steam, if the option is available -- I picked up Bioshock 1 and 2 this way when they had a 2K sale a few weeks ago, and everything worked nicely.

Did you patch the game? Amazon does not carry the most updated version of the game.

Tried it on ps3 and wasn't all that impressed, but its not really my style of game I think. I was impressed with the facial animations though, pretty slick.

i have it on PS3, even got the strategy guide so i woulnd't miss anything. i liked it for a while, but got very repetitive and i really hated the protaganist. He's actually kinda a jerk. So involved in his work without empathy with not enough emotions in his voice to outdo a robot.

the PC version looks crisper, but not good enough to warrant a purchase should i ever decide to continue playing it.

That's the problem, I have tried multiple times getting the patch to install to no avail. I can't find a stand-alone patch on the internet. Stupid Cafe non-sense

Wow. 5 million copies sold already and it looks like a large portion of people are having problems with it. Since it's making money maybe there is hope and they will come out with some decent fixes. I'm actually really looking forward to recreating the old private-eye style movie feel. You know the kiss me deadly sort of thing. The lighting is phenomenal. That much I can tell even at only a few fps and the music really brings up that mood. Here's to hoping it all comes together and I can soon play this as it was meant to be played.

Good luck in your efforts -- if all else fails, mabye they'll have a good deal on it during the Steam sale. I picked it up in the spring for 50% off.

Yes, if i remember correctly the game patches with the launcher. I remember even posting on here when i couldn't get it to work originally to no avail. shit happens and i gave up. I didn't think it was worth the aggravation of keeping the game and trying to get it to eventually work. I have to think that Amazon was aware of these issues as they issued a refund immediately no questions asked. I've never tried to return a downloadable game before but maybe it was just Amazon's amazing customer service. Who knows.

I understand that sometimes you have to go through hoops to get some games to work properly. I had to do that for the Walking Dead game on Steam. There was a convoluted fix on their forums that helped me get the game to work. It too wasn't launching. No such luck with LA Noire.

My system is pretty basic made with quality parts and not overclocked. Best of luck to those who also purchased and are having issues but i'm weary of PC ports from Rockstar due to their GTA series and this just adds another black mark to their shoddy treatment of PC gamers.
