Woke up at 5am this morning in Santa Barbara to my cat freaking out about the rain. Expecting 4 inches here today, 8-10 inches in the mountings above. Everyone ready for the floods and mudslides?

"An intense winter storm is expected to dump the heaviest rains in 10 to 20 years over Los Angeles and neighboring areas from late Thursday to early Saturday. Flash flooding and mudslides are expected."

Here in Southern California we will need every drop of rain we can get.

The fun part is that the heaviest part is supposed to hit during the evening commute. Glad I don't work in LA. It would take forever to get home tonight.

I'm supposed to drive to Big Bear today... kind of nervous about it now. Not sure if I should go, but the snow conditions will be for once, amazing here.

LA washing away wouldn't be much of a loss. And LA people need to stop whining. It's either "We're too dry!!!" or "We're too wet" or "It's too smoggy" or "We're on fire!".

Basically what I came in here to post. The 5 minutes they aren't spending complaining about things its all "Why would anyone live anywhere else? The weather is perfect here!"

What's stupid is that a lot of the rain isn't being collected. Many of the storm drains just empty out to the ocean.

We complain because 95% of the time it is perfect. So when something slightly changes we freak the f out.

People don't understand that too much rain at one time is bad. It'll fill the reservoirs up but too much rain at one time no matter what city you're in causes flooding.

Really? Considering the water situation I would think they would be trying to collect every drop of water they could.

Starting to get really rainy and windy here in Ventura. Love it. I just wish I was home so I could have a fire and watch it rain.

Because LA gets less than ten inches of rain in an average year it isn't worth it to build infrastructure to capture the rainfall.
In 1980 the Santa Barbara area had wide beaches that were maybe 100 feet wide. Strong storms in the winter of 1982 washed most of the beaches into the ocean.

That sounds like a perfect reason to capture rainfall, but what do I know? I'm not the one concerned about my taps...
