L4D2

So, everyone is complaining about L4D1 losing support with no new maps or anything, but since they arent ...really... changing too much with L4D2, what's to stop the mod community for just porting every map back to L4D1?

hmmm, dont know if that is against the user agreement

uh, i think pulling their content out of the game and freely distributing it _MIGHT_ be against the EULA.

but of course if they change certain things it should be fine.

IMO nothing is stopping them even if it is against the EULA(people pirate games all the time and its really no different). The real problem is that if there is no L4D1 servers that support the mod then you can't play online.

There are third-party servers. Plus I don't think it matters which map it is in order to be hosted on an official server.

If L4D2 is nothing more then a map pack, nothing. But I'd expect it to be more then just a map pack - and I expect the maps included to make heavy use of the new features.

Nothing would really stop them except L4D2 actually sounds like it will be significantly different. The changes and additions made to items/weapons/special infected and AI director could have significant influence over map design. A map designed for L4D2 might not work well or even at all in L4D1 even if it can be functionally ported.

you wont be able to use l4d2 assets without l4d2 installed. Now if somebody wanted to remap the levels with the l4d1 assets then they could do that.
