L4D starts minimized

I bought L4D b/c of steams weekend deal and played yesterday and really enjoyed it.

Today when I went to play I would start the game from steam, my screens would flash and then the game would minimize. Whenever I tried to maximize, the same thing would happen. Can anyone shed some light onto this?

is it possible that it is trying to play on a secondary monitor? Perhaps the monitor doesn't support the resolution that it is defaulting to?

Did you alt-tab out or do something of the sort? Maybe clicked on another window while L4D is loading? I had a lot of problems with this, and it is mainly the Source engine. When L4D is loading, leave it as 'focused' window. And it should load fine.

Or you can go to options when you get l4d loaded and enable borderless windowed mode.

Yea, after you do that it starts flickering, right? So ctrl-alt-del should give focus back to one window or the desktop.

I had this exact problem. I found a forum discussing it, and aparentally some computer have an issue with the videos that come up before the game or something.

Here is what I did to fix it:
Open steam and go to my games.
Right click on the offending game
Select properties from the bottom of the pop-up menu
Select "launch options" from the general tab of the properties menu
Type in "-novid" to the prompt line.
Click ok, and try to launch the game again.

Hope it works. It worked for me, but computers are funny little things 😛

I get the same action when I launch it as well as tf2, sometime tf2 switches nonstop between desktop and the game till I alt tab then select the game or I start task manager to interrupt the freakshow.Alt tabbing does the trick, known bug in tf2 since the last big patch.
