L33t Language...

MainFramed

i have some friends that i cant speak english with, because they speak the so called l33t language (things like....d00d, n00b, so on) is there a place on the web that actually gives the lanuage where you could learn it?

This belongs in OT, and will be moved there soon, but I'll answer it here.

13375p33k is based mainly on appearence and phonetics. For examply, let's take the word "newbie":

First, simplify it a bit. Replace the "ew" with "oo", since it sounds the same:

noobie

Next, take any syllables that sound like a letter name, and put that letter in it's place. Replace the "bie" with "b":

noob

Now, take any letters that look like numbers, and make the change:

n00b

If you see seemingly random pipes, slashes, and other crap, look at them to see if the resemble letters, and interpret them as such.

Once you can speek 1337 fluently, tell them what you think of it, i.e.:

|=|_|(|< 0|=|= j00 5700P1|) 1337 |&374|&|)

😀

|=|_|(|< 0|=|= j00 5700P1|) 1337 |&374|&|)

Okay, I've got everything except for "|&374|&|)".

Which doesn't at all address the question of why anyone in their right mind would choose to communicate in such a fashion...

I mean, assuming that some of this was originally meant to save a few keystrokes and enhance communication a bit...

Ah well, just one more special interest group to try to get their own odd variant of the english language officialized...

In case anyone was wondering what my message was, here is the solution:

"Fvck off you stupid elite retard"

Use 1337 only to bash 1337, never for actual communication... 🙂

"Leetspeak" is a pathetic dialect reserved for script kiddies. If you're a script kiddie you should feel right at home, if not, why would you want to sink to their level?

I developed a web based paging system that we use at work to send about 100,000 messages a month now.. and one of the things I put in it (thats hidden) is the ability to send a page, and have it automatically translated and come out as leetspeak on the pager..

Its funny as hell.. I still use it once in a while for laughs..

There is java code floating around on the web to do it like this:

haha, you sound angry about it. its common on irc, but generally used in a joking way, no one uses it with a serious tone (D00D 3Y3 4M S0 P1553D 0FF, come on 🙂)

I find it pathetic that those who actually use it on a common basis think its cool. I know a guy who basically speaks in l33t, even in real life like "WOO, a l33t hax0r" and says it its like WTF.....God some people just amaze me with their stupidity. Oh well, the net is full of morons.
